It's the lifted pickup trucks that challenge me. I get far more challenges from trucks then I do ricers and other muscle cars. Based on some of the guys I know, it's usually the hell raisers that drive big jacked up trucks so it doesn't suprise me. If you lived in the south you wouldn't be surprised either.

Same here. I was doing 80 on a 4 lane expressway when this lifted dodge 4x4 pickup came running up on me and started to pass. We ran up to 90 and I decided I had enough and goosed it over 100 and he backed right off. I've driven full size Ford trucks most of my driving life, and I can't imagine going over 90 in a lifted 4x4 without it being squirrley as hell.

They replaced that with the lower hp / bigger motor Scion Tc.

Tc standing for Toyota Celica.

The way I see it, Toyota hasn't produced a competitor in 10 years. There are some lexus that are fast, but toyotas fastest car is their V6 Camry, which actually ranks just slower than a Subaru WRX.

It's not that toyota has a race car or anything, it's these kids with a barrel for a muffler and a 10 foot tall wing on the back think yoda is God's gift to the world. Even in the older circles, guy's are saying yoda trucks are the best or I wish ford would build a car as good as yoda and so on. I've had toyota pushed down my throat untill I'm gaging on them. Even out on the trails, there's taco's broke down all over the place like the rest of us, there not made of gold or invinceable. I've gotten the point I can't even stand to here the name toyota. It seems yoda is doing thier darndest to put the american car companies out of buiness, even getting into the large truck market where the americans rule. Toyota is getting to big for thier britches and need to be taken down a peg or two. Then even let them in NASCAR for Pete's sake, a good ole boy's sport. If I can't back over them with my jeep, I would just as soon leave them in the dust with my stang. Actually, I hate them worse than chevy, the japanese junk, I can respect a good ole american chevy muscle car, unlike the rice slinging trash traps thats making tokoyo rich. Maybe some time I will really let you guy's know how I feel about toyota hee hee!!!!!!

I think that toyota has done some good for the American car market. Afterall, they paired with GM and showed them how to build a car the right way. They also keep competition going and keep prices down for us. Look at the price of a car from 15 years ago, it's pretty close to the same price as one costs today. We are getting more car for our weakening dollar.

The only thing toyota has done for us is put americans out of work. Toyota has done nothing to keep prices down as thier prices are inflated compared to ours. Sure they have built some factories over here and created some jobs for a few which doesn't come close to equaling the jobs they have cost. I come from a UAW town, we have friends and family who depend on the auto industry including my fathers retitement. You only know of toyota what you read, I live it every day. Come around and preach from the street corners what a great thing toyota has done for us. I'll give it maybe 5 minutes before you sleep with the fish. People here take this very serious as it has cost people thier very livleyhoods and thier way of life. Only now are people starting to see yoda for what they really are with thier rotting frames, recalls and inflated pricing. The only good thing about it is they made ford step up thier game in quality control. However, I've driven fords all my life and have never had issue with thier quality, if I did I wouldn't be driving one. This is a sore subject with me and in these parts, we need to drop this subject and move on before I say something I will regret.

I think stock, through the 1/4 mile, LS1 easy, but GT with CAI, tuning and some exhaust would make things pretty interesting. they always been 3rd gear (manual) monsters.

Good points. Fact is LS1 makes more power, as a product of displacement. And the weight and transmission are comparable for the 1/4 mile.

I like the fact that our motors produce 65.2hp per litre, while theirs make 60.5hp per litre. And ours is made on 87 octane while theirs is 91.

They don't care that our cars have lighter motors with more power per inch, they just want to brag about what they COULD do to their cars if they had the money.

Here's your answer:

Z28: LS1 5.7 V8 310 bhp @ 5200 rpm, 335 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm.
SS: LS1 5.7 V8 320 bhp @ 5200 rpm, 345 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm.

Performance:
Z28: 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, 1/4 mile in 14.0 seconds @ 101.3 mph.
SS: 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds @ 105.6 mph.

S-197 Mustang GT
Horsepower : 300 hp @ 5750 rpm
Torque : 320 lb-ft @ 4500 rpm
Redline : 6250 rpm

0-60 mph : 5.1 sec.(manual)
0-¼ mile : 13.9 sec @ 104.0 mph

It looks like mustang pulls ahead early and gets passed at the end of the 1/4

14.0 for a ls-1 Z28 Yeah maybe a 2.73 auto car driven by a 450 pound fat girl who can't drive.

more like 13.0 - 13.5 even the 2.73 auto cars run 13.7 or so..

You can tell those numbers are garbage mag times because they have a 3 mph differece from the SS and regular Z28 when in the real world they run just about identical times.

when I had my 1994 LT-1 Z28 6 speed I dipped into the 13's easy on street tires stock. and that was a LT-1 that had 60+ less RWHP

when I had my 01 mustang gt 5-speed I went 13.8's 99mph stock..

The 1/4 time is also slow for the mustang.. Where did you get these times from?

sorry to inform the OP in this thread but you probably would have lost if you raced this LS-1 I hate to say it because I am a ford guy but the only mustangs stock that can beat a stock LS-1 is a terminator or a GT-500 and I read your mod list your only chance would be against a poorly driven LS-1

I drove an LS1 prior to this too. Maybe you guys could learn to drive. Races are fairly even between good drivers in both cars. It's still slightly favoring the LS1.

As for the times, yeah those are magazine times. Since the only thing you can REALLY quote is published material otherwise people crawl out of the woodworks wondering where you got the numbers.

I was at the track one night with my cobra and these two punks pulled up next to me in a Z28. This was at the lanes where you go to get to the waterbox and all that and i just pulled in there and i really dont care about running by myself or with a car much faster than me. Could really care less.

Well i see this z28 pull up next to my tail lights and i hear the driver say "**** no faster cars than this turd, oh well its an easy kill" I kinda chuckled to myself and they pulled up and asked me if i wanted to run and i just nodded. Keep in mind my cobra is sitting there cammin and knockin and sounding like its about to open a can of cobra pwn-sauce. Make a long story short he did a little pissy ricer burn out and staged, i did a big boy burn out. Lined up, light went green, had him 2 car lengths with an instant and it was all over after that. Forgot the time i cut but it was one of my best in my cobra.

This may sound dick, but I keep my business cards in my wallet. So back at the lanes you can pull them out and give them your number in case they want some work done on their car to help them catch up to you.

You shouldn't lump all Camaro owners in the same category. Idiots buy Mustangs too.

I've had both. My 1998 Camaro auto had an FIPK intake that basically just sucked hot air but at the track ran an easy 13.8 @ 105.2 rolling it off the line (as the mo-fo wouldn't grip on the slippery track so it was pointless giving it more than 2k off the line). It was also lowered which may have reduced the traction on 275s.

When I bought my 05 Mustang GT, I knew it might ultimately be as fast if thrashed (0-60 was 5.3 in the road test I saw). I've also seen some poor road test figures for the Camaro but equally have seen a TA test where it hit 60 in 5.0 so it's always difficult to say. The Camaro would generally dyno 295-320 at the back wheels and seems to put out more than the claimed power.

There is no doubt the torque of the 5.7 could prove decisive but the Mustang has a 5 speed auto compared to the 4 speed in the Camaro. I did feel the need to supercharge my GT to get a step up in performance but even with a Vortech, you have to work the 'box.

The point is though, street racing is stupid so all this is academic.
