Can a simple bolt on pulley replacement hose my super bearings?

I had my car taken into a local Ford dealer to replace the factory smooth pulleys. The car has been modified and as a result the paint was the first to go on the factory pulleys. So they started to rust...and well my sounded like a wagon.

I ordered a full set of billet flow pulleys to go with my current red 3.1 upper and 6lb lower. I took it to Ford thinking "oh hour and half no biggie...just simple bolt on replacement" How wrong I was.

After 4 days I got my car back. The noise at idol now gone...I was happy that I finally got my car back. During the cars stay they "lost my original pulleys, broke a belt and went shopping for another 92mm pulley to replace the one they lost".

I took possession and the car sounded ok....I took it out and well..it started getting worse....I could hear a metallic sound coming from the engine increasing with RPM's. At idol its nearly inaudible.

So I did not hear it that much coming home Thursday. Friday I wanted to take it into the deal again but I was advised not too... I need to get this car in somewhere can checked out A.S.A.P.

I wondering if they could have F'ed my SuperBearings or something worse...I have no idea why it took them 4 days to do the job.

I'd bring it back in and have them straighten it out....and I'd do it sooner than later. If they're responsible for damaging your nose drive when removing the old pulley, then they should be damn well made to replace/repair it. My guess is that they let some kid work on it that didn't know what he was doing and he buggered it. The dealership has cluster**** written all over it, but in any case, you shouldn't be the one out the money. Four days to do a pulley swap is insane!!!!

If it is in fact the belt, a trick to quieting them down is to run a bar of soap along the edges of the belt while its running. But if its slipping as bad as you say it was in your other thread, I might be more inclined to think the belt isn't the right length?

Did you say it was a Gates belt? They’re known for being a little noisier than standard replacement belts, since they use a solid, rather than slotted belt surface….but nothing like you’re describing?

I will try that...the tech guy said that sometimes when they sit on shelves for long periods of time they can get crap in the ribs. Its the rib side...he sprayed some crap on the smooth side still noisy....rib side ...gold.

alignment of the pulleys perhaps? I read they can stick if the ribs are off.
