Can't turn input shaft by hand after rebuilding t-5???

Hi, I just completely rebuilt my wc-t5. I replaced all bearings, synchros and all three sliders. I shifted it into each gear and it worked fine. With the tailshaft flush against the case and the bolts only finger tight I can turn the input shaft. But as soon as I tighten it down a little with a ratchet I can't turn it with just my hand. I haven't tried using the driveshaft yet. There's no shim on the input shaft yet so it shouldn't be preloaded yet. Is it being hard to turn because of the new bearings or should it still turn freely? It shifts into every gear just fine so I'd think that'd tell me the synchros are all lined up? Thanks for any helping on this.

just a guess here but is the torque across the 4 bolts even? might be some side loading

Even when I take the input bearing retainer off I can't turn it but good idea. I'm thinking it could be the tab misaligned on the reverse brake. I'm gonna take the tailshaft back off later and see if it was lined up. I can't think of anything else it shifts into all it's gears so I'd think the synchros are all lined up ok.

Yep my hunch was right it was the tab on the cone for the reverse brake. I lined it up, put the tailshaft back on and the input shaft turns freely. Now I just have to clean it up, throw some new rtv on it and sew it up.:nice:
