I recently picked up a 90 coupe dirt cheap. It was just a roller.

My plans (like pretty much everyone) is drop in a carb'd 351. I already have a c4, 8.8 rear and a few other small things.

For the time being, I want to get the running under its own power. I picked up an 88 2.3 with auto tranny and pretty much everything else I was missing (full exhaust, radiator, extra rear end, even down to spark plug wires). My car is missing all the engine bay wiring, computer and who else knows what. I want to swap in the 2.3 as easily and cheap as possible. A few have suggested going down to a junk yard and picking up a lower/upper intake and carb off of an old ranger and using that. What do you all recommend?

As long as your going carb. in the future, you might as well start now. Don't forget you'll have to do something about the fuel pump in the gas tank. The older Fairmonts, Mustangs and Pintos all had carbed 2.3s also. Cheaper and easier is picking up the stuff from a 88 Mustang 2.3 and just installing that for now.

Not an expert on the subject but doesnt the computer control the automatic trans? If thats the case, I would think you would have issues going with a carb. I would think that it would be possible to swap in the 88 harness, computer and all that good stuff but it may well be as much work to get it going with the 2.3 as with the 351.
