So, my wife's 97 v6 - auto vert has been sitting for about a year. The car has been in a garage, but wasnt started at all during this time.

She had about 1.4 tank in her, so I added a bottle of injector cleaner and topped the tank off with fresh gas. Also filled the radiator with h20.

I plan on having the belts and hoses checked, oil changed, cooling system flushed.

What else should I do before I put any miles on this thing? Oh yea, the reason it has been sitting - I cant resist driving the Mach1!!!

thanks!

P.s. - I know this question is in the wrong forum, but i trust you 5.0 guys the most...

First thing I would do (after checking all the fluids like you did) is try to start it. If it runs, I would let it sit for a while so it can idle up to temperature in your garage.... Then you can check for any fluid leaks while the motor is running.

After that, check the tire pressures and move it outside of the garage. I'd let it run for a few more minutes in the driveway. Then I would take it down a side road to see if the car wants to be driven. After that, you might want to change the oil after a few hundred miles.

That first start up will be tough on the motor. All the oil has gone to the pan leaving the rest of the engine bare. But you don't have a dizzy so I don't know what you would do... If you do as above states then you should be good. Just that first few cranks will be rough on the engine until the oil gets totally circulated throughout
