CD player!

i bought a cd player and i am having one big problem with it...everything is hooked up right its grounded i get power and then a pop from the speakers but thats it nothing else...

what gives...ive been told to look for a factory amp! ive looked and i cant find it!!!!

So "dose" spelling, anyways the amp is in the center counsel under the dash behind the stock radio location.

i see nonthing!! is is mounted on the floor pan or what?

its not under the seat!

It is a 88. It should be bolted to the floor behind the stereo. P.S. It don't look like a aftermarket amp.

If Frankenstang can post a shot of her notch's dashboard, take a look at the black frame surrounding the oil/water/volt gauges on the passenger's side of the dash. That black doohickey is actually the bracket that once held the factory amp of that car (an '89) back when I had it. I just cleaned it up and zip-tied it onto the triple-gauge setup to hide the wiring and such ... and because I like to ghetto-fy my rides with cheap ways of rigging things up.

As stated, on an '88 it should be right there behind the stock radio, bolted down onto the trans tunnel hump. If it's already been removed, you're going to have to fish around for the loose connectors. Also, you're going to have to get a wiring harness for your CD player for a "Ford premium stereo" configuration - it's different than the standard harness used in most Fords and has a funky little square connector you need to use to bypass or run through the factory amp.

bite it in the ass and take it to a sound shop. saying you have everything hooked up correctly says nothing. you could have read the diagram wrong, or your car may have been wired wrong by somebody else, who knows. take it someone a shop, friend etc.. that does this on a regular basis and wiring doesnt "own" them.
it wont cost as much as you think and in a few months you wont even remember what a pain in the ass this was.

Check de fuses, mang. Either that, or you have a power or ground wire that came loose.

I used to get that a lot when I first got into cars and thought the ol' "twist 'em together and cover 'em with tape" trick was sufficient. This was before I discovered wire nuts, and then crimp connectors, and finally I evolved to soldering and wrapping my stereo wire connections. On a car like an F-body where you can swap a radio out in like 15 minutes, it wasn't a big deal, but when you move on to other cars that require you to disassemble half the freakin' dash and/or center console to get at the radio, like they built the friggin' interior around the radio, you only wanna do it once and do it right the first time.

This happened once to me , all i did was take off 1 of the speaker wires and whalla the rest of the speakers worked but the 1 did not so i belive it was the connection to the 1 speaker.

If I remember right the amp from my 87 vert was more round or square and smaller.

they want 100 bucks to put it in! they told me an 88 dose not have a facorty amp and they said if it dont work after they put it in, all they will do is crimp the connections together which i have done already and plug the harness in and done thats it...if it dont work they said its not there problem since i didnt buy it from them!

ive asked my buddy to look at it and he has...he wired it the same way i did, he is the one with the system in his car and he has the same headunit as mine and his works fine....

ive had my dad try it and he gets the same thing as me.. a pop from the speakers but nonthing else....


ive had the guy next door to me try it he has the 83 mustang which he put a headunit it, he gets the same thing a pop from the speakers and then nonthing.

the radio harness has not been cut up, just unplugged from the factory radio and left there till i bought it.

look on your fuse panel ont he dash... read the back of the plate it will tell you what one is for the radio...check it...ive poped them a few times.

sounds like a bad ground to me, was the stereo in there working? is this a brand new unit or a used one? double and triple check your wiring to make sure it really is correct, then check for loose grounds.
