thats silver- not chrome. It cam to me black with grease and dirt. This is a finished product...well...it just needs to be hosed off....yall like?

Yes there is. I have seen spray cans that you can buy and do it yourself. However, the stuff was like $25 a can.

Don't know about powder coated clear, but I had a set of Factory aluminum Ranger wheels that were clear coated. Looked good when new, but didn't age well. When the clear coat peeled it looked like crap Had a caliper stick on it, heating the wheel up enough to turn the clear coat a nice shade of brown ( that was impossible to remove) something to consider if the intake you're using has an exhaust cross over passage. Give me a natural finsh(none) for aluminum any day.

It wont hold THAT much heat in....people paint their intakes all the time.

Yes, there is clear powdercoat. When it is applied to bare metal, it makes the metal look darker for some reason. I did a brand new vic jr intake in clear....and it made it look like a darker grey...not really dark though.

Powdercoating does not come out of a can. and it is not done with baths either

Powdercoating is just that.... a powder. That is shot onto whatever you want and sticks permantley, because the powder has a positive charge and the object you are putting it on has a negative charge. Then it is baked in a high heat oven, usually two coats are done, is this right allcarfan?

10sec....actually....it will...it wont dull and dirt and grease wipe right off with regular soap and water.

I have heard of people laying one coat down and baking it, then doing another coat and baking it again.(It makes for a real shiny and glossy look) You have never heard of this, or you just dont do it that way?

Can't you get the same polishing effect from grinding compound from Eastwood? Atleast the finish would stay. How hard is it to polish an intake yourself? Anyone done it?

Just food for thought-- just finished cleaning my vintage 428 PI intake on the 68 Merc's 390 a while ago. After 30 something years under Ford blue paint, then glass beaded last 2 years ago, all the cleaning it took was a $1.59 can of spray carb cleaner ( not even the whole can) and rinsing with the water hose. Does anyone have any ACTUAL tests where powder coated intakes came out looking like new after 30 years?

I polished al of my aluminum.......waterpump, valve covers, power steering bracket, alt, alt bracket, fuel pump, air breather cover, ignition cover, bottom of dizzy, master cylinder, prop valve, even the aluminum bolts,so yes it can be done. Took hours and hours and hours and they look fantastic. Can you say bling? Sorry no pics now, but someday I will show the the whole car, she is pretty to say the least. The only part I did not do was the steering rack.....not much room to work down there.

You can polish.....if you want to spend dozens of hours doing so. I can have an intake blasted, and coated in chrome that shines just about the same as a polished intake and ready for install in about an 2 hours. The first hour of that is spent removing the rough casting. This is what I am doing on my vic jr, i will post pics.

As for the longevity of powdercoating....If it electrically BONDS to the metal (unlike paint), is more durable (can beat it with a hammer), and is baked on...I would tend to think it would hold up a tad better than paint. carb cleaner wont take it off either I will call you in 30 years and let you know though.
