Chevy guy looking to get into a GT...need your help

I dunno car looks nicee but it seems fishy IMO. Id bring a hardcore stang guy down to check it out. Also i would sell the Vette outright and buy a clean baisinc stang and work it up to my own specs. I have looked at somany cars that people said they have this this and this. Ive looked under those cars and they didnt have what they said at all. The guy could say he has a magic pigmy Elf under the seat but until you look with a trained eye you just have to take his word. Have a good stang guy look at it with you.

+1 on selling the vette outright. I am willing to bet that the vette could bring you 10k easy if it was well maintained. take the cash from the vette and go buy this guys stang or another to hop up. you are going to bite it big if you do a straight trade.

That would be ideal, but unfortunately this is the wrong time of year to try to sell a Corvette. Depending on where you live, the late fall/winter months are the time when people are storing their Corvettes for the winter. In general most of the prospective buyers will be thinking the same thing and will not want to buy a car that they will not be driving till the spring. This logic makes no sense to me because I drive mine all year long. A majority people who buy a Corvette are looking for an "investment" which is completely idiotic.

I know this car and I know that Jamie has had it up for sale/trade at another site for the past 2 or 3 weeks and hasn't had any serious offers. That in itself is sad, because the car has been well maintained and documented (the three guys who have owned this car, which includes the original owner all post on another forum). The only thing that it doesn't have going for it is high miles, but even then that's debatable. If a car is well maintained, miles become less of a factor.

What it all boils down to is how fast Jamie wants to get rid of the Corvette. Do I think that it could be sold for 10K+ ? Hell yeah I do, but the problem is finding the right buyer.

unfortunatley that is true. Living in Fl I dont have to winter a car, but I know where you are coming from. I just cant shake the feeling that this will be a very uneven trade. I also dont like purchasing or buying vehicles that are heavily modded or have had extensive work done on them. you just never know what someone has done to the vehicle or the quality/experience of the mechanic that did the job. I have seen too many people buy a muscle car that had all it's defects hidden under a buch of shiny chrome and fresh paint. this subject just makes me leary. even if Jamie is having issues with his vette( I do agree they are costly to maintain) I would still urge him to be patient and store the car for the winter and sell in the spring when he can fetch a premium price for it. after all, if he has to store the corvette, he will have to store the mustang if he gets it as well. I just hate seeing people get ripped off..

I understand exactly what you mean about buying a modified car. It's a crap shoot in what you are going to get. I prefer to buy my cars bone stock so that I know that I have a clean "platform" to do any modifications.

Now in regards to Jamie's potential trade, it's hard to say what he's going to get. He could get a clean Mustang that has been professionally built or he could be getting something that "Joe shade tree mechanic" slapped together over a couple of weekends. Jamie and I talked via PM yesterday quite a bit and I understand that he's lost some confidence in the Corvette ($$$ for potential repairs, high miles, etc). I've had the night to think it over and if it were me, I'd hold off on pulling the trigger. You really can't compare these two cars side by side. One is a stock special edition Corvette and the other is a highly modified Mustang. They are just two different animals.

I do think he'd be better off either waiting till spring to try and sell the Corvette or start driving it more and develop some confidence in the car. Now it all boils down to how bad Jamie wants to get rid of the Corvette. If he thinks that he's never going to be able to trust it and it's just not the car for him, it's just going to sit in the driveway. If that's the case then it's time to move on. It's just a matter of when he wants that to happen. I agree there are better ways to get rid of it (EBay, auto trader, etc) but all those take time and patience (plus the right time of year for in some areas). It's not a decision that can be made lightly though. The risk is pretty high with this particular trade.

for what its worth... i do have it on autotrader :D ...... just really dunno what to do anymore.....i did list it on 2-3 mustang forums for trade...and didnt get any offers that i liked....i live in Mississippi,so i dont have to worry about storing the car at all.....i would definately feel better about trading it to someone on a mustang forum...or a newer bone stock mustang...but one hasnt crossed my way yet

Jamie

imo... mustang fourms is the wrong place to trade... im here cuz i love my stang more then anything in the world, even if you offer to trade me i'd prolly pass... place it on a main road that has alot of traffic.. and put 10k on it at least.... you'll get that easy!

you dont have a main road thats heavily populated that has non-stop traffic... cars on the side of the road sell 50x's faster then auto trader and E-bay.. and you'll get what your asken not a caller sayen ill give you 5k cash... Example: teleagraph road in the busy'est road in michigan.... goes from ohio-Northern michigan, its a main road 8 lanes- 4 on each side.... everytime we put a car on it for sale, it doesnt last longer then week b4 its gone.. my dad sold his 96 honda shadow motorcycle befor we walked away from it.. a guy seen him pull in and pulled in behind him and went to the bank and paid him b4 he got back home.... you dont have a main road?

HAHAHAHA...my dumb ass...thought ya was talking about somewhere on the net....dam me lol...i got ya ...well...there is a main road...but not where i can keep a eye on the car, i just aint comfortable with that :(

i pull out in front of my house, that way i can see it...doors locked of course lol.....guess time will tell eh ?

Jamie

Here's a quick thought. Since you are going to put it out front of your house, Why don't you post an asking price on your post in the Vette forum? I know that you are looking for a trade, but if you could get what you paid for it (or close to it) back, then you'd be in a better position to find a nice stock Mustang. What's the worst that going to happen, No one buys it? At least it's free advertising. Just a thought.

Best of luck to you in whatever you choose to do.

lol..yeah he did aproach me with it.....i've just about backed out of trading for it after a night of sleeping on it....if i trade its going to have to be a fairly new stang or a nice cobra....which looks like noone wants to trade their cobra for a vette....so i put the car up for sale now...and yes its a 40th and kinda purdee lol
