Clutch depth issue

My clutch doesn't grab until almost the very top. I can press it down about 2 inches and shift fine. I can shift through every gear by simply pressing the clutch down just a little bit. Almost seemed to help the clunk because I'm slipping it better. Anyway, I'm sure that can't be good so I am curious to know what it could harm?

In your car is the worlds most unopened piece of vital material (owners manual) in it you would find out that your clutch requires a self adjustment every 2500 miles.

to do this with car off and tranny in first gear you put your foot under the clutch pedal lift up then push your pedal all the way to the floor and you should hear a click.

repeat this step until no more clicks are heard.

now on the latter, your clutch quadrant if stock is plastic and are known to stripping. if this has occured no adjustment is possible without replacing the quadrant with a factory or and aftermarket piece.

you are correct and acknowledging that the pedal travel is excessive. I have a steeda aluminum quadrant with firewall and clutch pedal height adjuster. my clutch and brake pedal are almost the same height now and pedal travel is right where i want it.

only thing is now that it will no longer be self adjusting but it is not that diffcult with the firewall adjuster.

any further questions i would be more then happy to TRY and answer them for you just email me.

one thing I had to do was modify my clutch engagement switch to engage with the new full release height of my pedal so I can still use cruise control.

I adjust mine every 2500 miles thank you :) My question simply was would it hurt it by not fully depressing the clutch since it disengages so shallow?

Nope - no harm, as long as you are sure it is fully disengaging. But that's a PITA to drive a car like that. Sounds like the clutch has seen it's better days. You can really improve the feel by adding Maximum Motorsport's Clutch Pedal Adjuster ($20). We threw the whole Steeda kit (quad, adj cable, FW adj) at my wife's 01 after a KC Clutch install, and still had the issue you've described. Then we added the MM part...problem solved.

I have no problems with it. For racing it's slower but traffic driving it makes it easier because I don't have the full range of motion. Plus, the clutch only has 32,000 miles on it :) The first 18k were driven easy. The rest have been driven medium hard.
