I know this may have been covered before but i am not the most knowledgeable on this subject.I have a 89 lx that has a new motor that is almost equal to that of the 93 cobra similar specs, e-cam, cobra intake gt-40p heads 24#ers adj. reg. etc. the car has a c&l meter for the injectors and it has the stock ecm.Now if i was to change the stock ecm to the cobra ecm and get a 93 cobra mass air would the car be able to run better than it does now?it seems like it runs like crap until it warms up.for ex. it seems to be running rich with a stumbling idle.Almost all electronics are new tps, egr,o2's etc. would that be a worthwhile choice or should i just get a chip burned?Sorry if this seems like a repetative question. Thanks in advance.

Keep your stock computer. It is much more user friendly than the Cobra computer.

As for the poor performance when cold, dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.

See http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/
OR
See http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html for more descriptive help
OR
See http://www.mustangworks.com/articles/electronics/eec-iv_codes.html

Trouble codes are either 2 digit or 3 digit, there are no cars that use both 2 digit codes and 3 digit codes. Codes have different answers if the engine is running from the answers that it has when the engine isn't running. It helps a lot to know if you had the engine running when you ran the test.
