No, they do not flow the same. The GT-40 still holds the advantage over the Cobra in that respect. An extrude honed Cobra upper may flow as well, or slightly outflow the untouched GT-40, but then that adds to the cost and you would have been just as well to buy the GT-40 to begin with. And the spacer is great if you're running a streetcar, but for the guys who want the option to delete the EGR valve, the GT-40 is the better choice. And yes….the Gt-40 is better looking.
MAN - there is still a lot of bad info on these intakes out there depsite evidence to the contrary. Look at this dyno test done by Aderson Ford Motorsport of all 3 intakes - not a couple of HP difference between any of them............
And as far as the GT40 outflowing the Explorer, that info mentioned above was from a 1996 article in Super Ford that has sincve been proven wrong - by the above dyno for one and by this flow bench test for another.......
Yea 200 is a great deal for a legit cobra upper and lower. I was offered a polished cobra upper and lower for 300 which is a great deal to, but I liked the way the GT-40 looked better. I also have heard that ford stopped producing the cobra intake? There was a roush 3 piece intake on ebay about 2 weeks ago. The guy told me he would settle for 800 to end the auction early. I waited a day and the thing went for $1,750. I F'd that one up.
so the gt-40, explorer, and cobra intake are all fairly the same performance wise... im probably going to go with the cobra intake
also what about edelbrock performer intake? Does that provide better performance than the gt40, & cobra intake?
The Cobra/GT40/Explorer intakes have larger runners and they are staggered when looking at the top of the lower intake. The stock intake has oval runners and they are in a straight line when looking at the top of the lower intake.
Holy **** phlobus, you are in beverly ma. ME TOO lol. I drive a h/c/i mustang in the area. I have probably seen you. What color is your car?

yea i am pretty sure I have seen yours. I work at the shaws in beverly while I go to school in Boston. I drive a 94 GT with lots o mods

The edel. intake is overkill on a stock headed engine.
Also the gt40 CAN be fully ported. I had one. You can't however extrude hone them being that they are made from individual tubes rather than a cast piece such as a cobra (the walls are too thin).
Also for the money I'd go with a cobra. Or even the explorer for that matter. According to FMS the cobra will support 400hp and the gt40 will support 425. As you can see by the dynos not a lot (if any) power is to be had by "upgrading" to the gt40.

The #9 has a removable carrier.
Since we're on the topic of low priced Cobra intakes, I was cruising Ebay today and found this if anyone’s interested?

I wouldnt consider a Performer RPM over kill on a stock engine, not as bad as a track heat/ holley intake

I'll bet that winner pays $275-300 for it.
Yeah, probably since it was only about $58.00 when I posted it and as of now it's $108.00.
Ah well, guess we'll see. Just trying to do my part.
