I'm planning my "parts list" to finish up the engine. Currently it's:

Fresh 306 with GT40 heads
tubular GT40 intake
E303 cam
75mm TB and EGR spacer
75mm MAF
24# injectors and FMU
255lph fuel pump
6psi blower pulley

Now, this thing runs pig rich, there's an issue with the wiring because the O2 signal doesn't reach the computer. I'm ripping out the half-ass'd MAF conversion and upgrading the wiring to an 89. I'm also changing the pulley on the charger for 10 or 12psi of boost.

So here's what I'm changing:

- Removing the FMU
- 42# injectors
- Calibrate MAF
- 85mm MAF
- Tweecer R/T
- 1.7 roller rockers
- Dyno Tune

Not sure if I need:
- larger fuel line?
- larger fuel rails?
- larger MAF, do I really need the 85mm?
- Adjustable fuel regulator?

Also are 42# injectors too much? I want to get rid of the FMU. I'm hoping to reach a little over 400rwhp with 10-12psi of boost (may be closer to 450 with his much boost, that's ok too). Eventually I will get better heads and intake but for now, I want to setup the EFI properly.

P.S. Engine dyno'd at 313rwhp with stock high-mileage long block (stock cam, E6 heads and burning oil - no compression, and 6psi). I didn't do a baseline with the new 306 but it does feel much stronger according to the SOP monitor lol...

Thanks much

I don't think a larger MAF or FPR would hurt. IIRC the stock fuel system (save for the pump of course) is good to about 500hp, though I'm not sure if that is at the wheels or flywheel.

Thanks for the reply. I should be fine the stock fuel system (minus pump), I won't pass the 500 mark with the GT40 heads and intake so I should be fine.

I can't wait to finish this thing though, sort of want to take it all apart now but need to wait until I move into my new house.

Not for your power levels, no.

Why not? Honestly, you could probably go even bigger, though I'm not sure how much you'd really gain from doing so. Is this the Abaco 85 that you're talking about?

Probably not if your dyno tuner knows what the hell he's doing and your injectors are sized right.

42s are damn near perfect, if not even a little on the small side if you're going for 450 to the tire on stock fuel pressure.

Check it:

Awesomeness! Thanks...

Another thing I didn't think about is, should I have some sort of "boost ignition retard" (forgot what it's called)... I currently have a 6AL box. But I figure 12psi max doesn't require such things?

Everything seems ok but i really doubt you're going to make 450. Especially with untouched heads and intake i'd say 385-400.

I heard that too, I want to set myself up so if I buy new heads and intake, I can just get a tune and call it a day. Not have to spend another 2k on EFI upgrades...

My buddy has a 302 with untouched afr 165's, ported saleen intake, 14psi and a e303 and makes 436rwhp, i'd say you make about 50-60hp less

So 42's are too much? I hear so many different power stories. One guy with Trickflow top end and 331 and 11psi makes 540rwhp, one guy with GT40 setup and 10psi makes 450rwhp... LOL

I'm not making any guesses. All I know is my stock 5.0L with 6psi made 313rwhp and I've since put in a fresh 306, GT40 setup, cam and some EFI stuff... Don't know what it makes now... Trying to figure out what injector size I should start with? I'd like to be able to upgrade HCI and just need a tune instead of new injectors, TB, MAF, fuel pump all over again lol

42's are fine. Better to have larger then smaller. Im running a similar setup as you, just heavily ported svo heads, ported 5.0 intake, .566 lift cam, rockers, 308 at about 9.4:1 compression and i went with 44lb injectors, im hoping to make 460-500rwhp on 15lbs from a V2 s-trim with a power cooler.

Sounds good, 42's it is. I'm hoping for HCI combo in a few years. Mainly AFR, Lunati and some sort of boxed intake... But for now the GT40 stuff will have to do.

If the heads havnt been installed yet i'd have them ported or grab a different set it you can. Been seeing some cheap TW's on corral lately. Then again, buying used heads is a no bueno thing.
