I'm planning on eventually swapping out the AOD for a T5, but I'm unsure whether or not I will be attemping this as I'm still pretty green as far as tranny's go(I've only ever installed an automatic transmission onto a 350 chevy). If I have access to a hoist, I may do it myself, but I'm unsure of whether or not I'll be able to use it. Anyway, how much should I be looking at to get a transmission shop to swap out the AOD and install the T5? Thanks.

The last T-5 swap I sold to a retail customer I got 900 for everything. I sold him Trans, bell housing, clutch, PP, T/O bearing, fork, driveshaft, pedal box, shifter shift boot, cable, crossmember. I thought that was cheap because believe it or not I ususally get 750+tax just for the transmission. People usually don't know that you can get new T-5's for 999. If you find a yard out in the country, that doesn't have a lot of business, you should find it cheap like 400-500 bucks.

i got mine on ebay with everything for 300 bucks. You really gotta search for a deal like that though.

Did that include clutch, bellhousing, clutch pedal assembly and everything else needed? I've looked on ebay and there are some good finds.

Does anyone know what an approx. price would be for a shop to remove and AOD and install a T5? I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the work myself so I just wanted to get some prices to compare.

Your looking at atleast 4 hours of labor to do that at a shop ... Depending where you are, that could be from 40-90 a hour...

Ok thanks. My dad knows a guy that owns a transmission shop so I'll see if I can get a deal. Now I just got to find a transmission...

look for a parts car with a T5, i found a complete car minus the engine for 300 bucks, i wanted to swap out the 4spd SROD tranny for something stronger, took a few hours on my back in the gravel but it was well worth it

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll try to look for a parts car, but I'm not sure I'll find one around here, but you never know. This is a stupid question, but are the tranny's in the 4 cylinders the same? There are quite a few 4 bangers around here that I might be able to rip a tranny off. Are there any parts that should be purchased new, like the clutch?

yep it had everything

You can also use your AOD xmember.
Just cut the tack welds with a dremel and re-tack it after installation.
You can use the pedal assy from the 4 banger.
Also get the upper and lower shift boots along with the shifter bezel.
Get a stock clutch and cable from D&D and a Steeda quadrant and FW adjuster from the classified or one of the advertisers.
The swap is not hard to do.
The toughest part is swapping the pedal assy.
