Cutting the Stock Springs ?s

I've never had a problem chopping stock springs, regardless of what some people in this thread say. I've done it with 4-different vehicles and every one of them has turned out just fine. The key is to limit the amount of heat you're using when you cut them and don't get greedy with the drop.

To each their own though.

I agree. Im riding on fox 4 cyl springs cut 1/2 coil in the front with 90/10 struts and cut stock rears. The ride is nice and soft. This is my drag suspension set up though. I normally run sportlines with tokico hp's during the winter.

As I said, "I doubt many have actually ridden in a Mustang with cut springs." Obviously, you are in the minority of those with negative cut spring opinions. (Most are offering their opinions with no actual experience with such) I have to believe either the car you rode in was a hunk of junk already or the springs were cut in half. Honestly, I dare to compare mine against anyone's lowered spring kit for overall ride. It's a bit firm, but not harsh. I've pushed it into turns faster than I would ever do with the stock ride height.

My claims were based on experience. My car came with chopped stock springs (2" drop total) and it bounced a lot and made the car feel very unstable on the highway. Yes I agree that if you're only doing a very mild drop then cutting the springs might be ok, but for anything substantial it is not that great of an idea.

well i went ahead and did cut one coil off the stock springs and the ride is just a tad bit stiffer which is hardly noticeable...im just loving the look of my stang now!! thanks for everones opinions!
...and see, at the end of the day, it dropped and rides just the way you wanted it to and you've still got a few hundred bucks left over to spend on something else you couldn't have otherwise done for free. ;)

....good call on the wingless look too. I think it really sets the car off. :nice:
