Cylinder Heads & Tune Problems

Well, since summer is rolling around i'm thinking more and more that i want to throw a set of cylinder heads on my car, preferrably aluminums. I'm looking @ edelbrock performers 1.90/1.60. Seems i'll be able to get the best deal price-wise for a set of those. The only thing that is holding me back is the stock computer. I'm not sure if i'll be changing the cam or not, what would be the difference in power from stepping up to a fairly basic cam as opposed to using performers with the stock cam? I know that alot of people have used the Tweecer with great sucess, but i'm not sure if i have the time or the extra money to deal with that now. I'm hoping i can throw a set of heads on and not worry too much about the stock tune.

Firstly i really like my edel performers real good quality.

Second i think it mainly seems to be the cams that thow off the computers. If you just go with the heads you should be able to make it work, fine.

I agree with John and think you could get by with the untuned pcm.

With those nice flowing heads and your intake, you will be pushing those stock inj's close to the limit.

If you go for a larger maf/inj's to support the airflow, sooner or later, your gonna have to tune or compromise somehow or the other with no tune IMHO.

Just add the heads for now with some 1.7 RRs. The engine will run perfectly. You can always add a cam later once you have more time/money.

Yes, that was also in the back of my mind the injectors/MAF. I've heard the stock injectors are good to around 300? I don't want to push them to there limit though. Since i won't be changing the cam (i don't think). Will i be ok fuel/maf wise with what i allready have + heads?

Keep in mind ...... 300 fw is only 255rw

yea, i just don't want the engine to not get enough fuel, especially in the upper rpms.

No tune needed with just the heads or even with a mild cam. Optimal is a tune but if your keeping the stock cam no issues really.

I used 24# on my 300hp HCI combo. Worked perfect. A good meter is a MUST. I have seen meters that ran like crap. I had and 80mm that was for 38#, never was right. Even with tuning. Had a Pro-M77 that was perfect no tuning. To me meters will make the car nice and driveable or a pain. Full of stalling and surge. Dyno tuning can overcome most meters deficencies though.

allright thank you, i've heard that it is absolutely essential to get a good meter or you'll be chasing problems for along time. I think when the time comes, i'll look into a Pro-M unit.
