I went to the lemon-lot on Fort Drum today. I don't know why it's called that, but that's where soldiers put their cars/boats/bikes/snowmobiles/etc up for sale. I'm going to put my '97 vette up for sale there in a few days, because I'm starting the longest deployment yet in a few weeks. I saw a guy there taking a close look at a black '01 Mustang GT that was looking for 15,500. I pulled up next to him and asked him if he was looking to buy a sports car. He said that he already had one, and we got into a discussion about it.

So he's apparently go an '03 Cobra. I pretended ignorance and asked, "that's the one with the supercharger, right?" He said "Yeah, and I swapped it for a 427W with a twin-screw." I was obviously very interested at this point and told him that I'd love to see it. I told him a little about my turbo project and he gave me his phone number.

I had no reason to doubt what he was saying until after I asked, "So why'd you swap out the 4.6?"

"I just didn't want it"

"That's cool do you still have it?"

"Nah, I sold it"

"You do your own work?"

"Yep, I do everything"

"Tell me about the internals, and which block did you run?"

"huh?"

"What type of 351W block do you have?"

"Oh, uh no, it's a 427W."

"I see. Well I gotta run. I'll call you later if I can. If you see someone that'd be interested in a vette, tell them about me. Later"

"Ok, c'ya around"

So, this guy took out a 1000hp capable shortblock and threw in a 427W with a twin screw blower doing all of the work himself, but looks at me like there's a dick growing out of my forehead when I asked him about the block and the internals.

Oh well, I guess I got excited about nothing. I hate being bull****ted. If the guy just told me that he had a stock '03 Cobra, I would still given him a thumbs up. I think people do this kind of thing to sound cool and just don't expect that others will have a clue.

Where do I start... non-rice people with muscle cars, from a stock 305 with a holy carb to a 350 with carb+intake - they ALL have at least 400hp.

My cuz would tell you this about his 5.0L: "I called up Ford and gave them my VIN, turns out I have a REAL 95 Cobra engine. I can tell because it has a different water pump and crank. I don't have the cobra intake because it's a special order shortblock. My E7 heads are custom from Ford to give as much power as GT40 heads". I put that engine in the car, it's a basic 1995 5.0L with the crappy Thunderbird/Cougar intake. He thinks he has a Cobra water pump because it's not the same as a fox body one I don't know where he thinks he has a special Cobra crank? The engine doesn't even have Forged pistons. HE is a very good bullcrapper though, very good at it. Sometimes at car shows, there are others like him and when they start talking, OMG! I wish I could film it and show it here but it's all going to be in french :lmao:

Yeah where do i start?

For example, around here if you're ever looking at a 5.0 for sale, it's ALWAYS at least "a 306 with a small cam" whatever the hell that means, and the kicker is that a lot of guys start rattling off about the Ford Racing 303 cams and say it's not an E303 because it's a "small" cam so it's a B303, thinking that since the letter B comes before E it must be smaller, not realizing that the B lopes harder than the E so it would sound like a "bigger" cam.

What's great is if you just pay attention to these kinds of people when they're talking, they rat themselves out all the time. This one kid recently i was talking to was talking about his car, saying he never beats it yet it'll blow the tires off clear through 4th gear. How would he know if he hasn't beat it?

Yeah there's a local kid who's dad owns a fox Saleen....he says it makes 450hp at the wheels...yet it's naturally aspirated and still has the stock intake. The worst thing you can do is talk lies about cars to car guys especially when you don't know what you're talking about.

I once told a ricer (I was in an Accord) that I put in a K20 in there, left it automatic and it ran 12.4 on the 1/4... The guy had an acura with a HUGE double wing on it, fart pipe and stock engine. Then he said if I can beat Mustangs, I told him that 5.slows are crappy POS cars and so forth. But he said that Mustangs aren't slow cars, all you need to do is put some Chevy 305 valves in them and they run in the 11's

HAHA thats a good one. Chevy valves. You know what kills me even more than the ricers are the people who own a mustang or some v8 muscle car and claim to HATE ricers. So you get to talking and they tell you some obscure engine combo they're running and that it makes 450 hp!!! So you take a little peakski under the hood and they are running a stock E7 HCI car with a massive conical filter sitting in the engine bay and a dryer hose intake tube! Nice!

I am a pretty straight shooter when talking about my car. Its slow as hell. I'll tell anyone in the world that cause its the truth.

I just can't stand people who are stupid or try to bull**** me. More often than not I just walk away while they are in the middle of their bull. It pisses them off to no end.

I will typically play along and then start questioning by saying, "I thought..." or "Don't they have..."...

Then most say, "Well, I don't know but..."

I have several of those around here, surprisingly a lot of them at the drag strip

lol Ive gotten used to just telling everyone my car is a upperlower intake car with a b-cam so I get races...or I just say its a stock 302. I mean the bottom half is stock so if half is stock you round up and its a stock 302!!

i always just say i have exhaust and gears. it explains the loudness without giving away too much. i hate getting questioned about my car from ignorant people. just saying that usually keeps it to a minimum.

I'll always lie but NEVER to make the car seem more than it is. I usually just say 302, heads and a cam or cam and exhaust. Absolutly no one needs to know what I have unless I choose to make it their business. I've ran into people like most of the guys in here have. I usually just play dumb and yes them to death. I try not to associate myself with people like that.

I have downplayed my little fox a couple times off hand...but most of the time I tell them exactly what is done, but most of the time they don't understand anyways...lol.

I got a good story with a new charger and my fox at the local cruise...

His ego was high north, and hit south real quick...

At the local street races, everyone always says their car is stock. There's one super-gutted notch with a stock engine, drag suspension and slicks. Always funny hearing the owner say it's stock right before it holeshots a Cobra.

Anytime anyone asks me, I'm stock.

You guys should try owning an ex police car.....everyone and their mother thinks it's the fastest thing on 4 wheels just because it was a highway patrol car. I used to try to explain to them that it's the same engine as any other '85 5.0 but i gave up...now i just let them think what they want.
