Mine started doing something similar right before I bought my new GT. It would eventually open, but it sure didnt want to initially. It also didnt want to close fully. It would take a serious slam to close it. I just lived with it until I got my '03. When the 5.0 was in hibernation, my grandfather messed around with it and got it to where it will open, close, and latch, but now I cant lock it. Oh well, I keep nothing valuable in the car anyways . I know 5.0resto has a door handle kit thats not to expensive. Anyone know exactly what is causing this to happen? Would that kit fix our problems???

Sounds like the push rod for it came off Monte87. It's not hard to fix but you do have to take off the door panel. If it did come out, don't just put it in again go get a new plastic retainer piece, or it will do it again later. Good Luck

On my gt the handle did the same thing. I took the door panel off and saw that the piece of the door handle that the rod attaches to snapped off. I just ordered a new door handle from latemodelrestoration.com.
BTW the new handle is metal not plastic so it will never do it again. This could be your problem.
