ok so I got a set of 17x9 03 cobra's last week with 275/20/17 NT555R's with 80% tread on em, well im goin to the track this friday and im not really sure what psi to use and also do you just spin the tires a bit not in the waterbox like street tires or what? could use some tips thanks!
i used mine at 18psi, spun them in the waterbox to get them wet then proceeded foward and burned out for a good 6-9secs, got a 1.77 60'ft on them.....and they were pretty much bald, LOL
ALWAYS drive around the water box unless you have bias ply skinny's up front. Now recently I have started backing up into the water box, but you run the rick of throwing water up into your wheel wells that can then drip down onto your tires after the burnout....limiting traction.
Do what you want there....but drive AROUND the WB in any case.
I never get good 60's, no matter what tires I run....because im VERY easy on my cars on the launch....shows because I have never broken anything at the track I have a good 100 passes under my belt between the cobra and my old GT.
Nittos seemed to work the best around 18-19 PSI from my experience.
light up the nittos for a good 5-10 seconds. They need to be hot. I use to cut 1.80-1.85's with 275/40's and crappy C springs and stiff struts at 264rwhp with a good burnout.
If you drop the clutch, you will have to launch fairly low. The shock usually will break nittos loose unless you have a well prepped track.
I've got nittos on my 4cyl. They definately don't like to be shock loaded, so you'll have to slip the clutch a bit. I got a best of 1.797 on an open differential and 245-45-17's. They didn't spin a bit, so I think there's more left in 'em.
I also found they need heat to stick. I burned them hard until they are smoking hard. My burnouts tend to be very long because it's a 1 legger (open differntial). First, one tire spins, then when it gets hot the other tire starts spinning. It just jumps between tires. lol
