well i called up DSS today to order my block, and i told them everything Pete (yellow5.0cobra) and they told me since i am upgrading everything for a supercharger, which will go on sometime in the next year. i might as well upgrade to the level 20 block, otherwise they said that i might crack the block, it's 300 more for the upgrade, should i do it or not? is it worth it? thanks

What the **** is a level 20 block?
Yes, doesnt matter WHAT they do to the stock block, it will crack past 550 or so HP.
Although I do know people running 9seconds on a stock shortblock.
But the fact of the matter is, i dont care if they have level 100, if they use the stock block, it will break.
Lets just stick with the basic program and what we discussed.
Now if they let you upgrade to a SPORTSMAN block for $300, then I would say yes. The sportsman can take a couple hundred more hp than the stock block. But I highly doubt this.
Just stick to the DISHED low comp pistons
5340 I or H beam rods
4340 crank and main support.
As much as they want to sell you flattop pistons, tell them no, you want LOW COMPRESSION.

the stock block is what it is.... a stock block. even when it cracks down the middle a girdle will just hold the 2 cracked pieces together

I just got my DSS shortblock last mon. and I too chose not to go with the "20" as I thought it was a bit of a gimmic(sp?), IF you are planning to make alot of power or rev it high I would strongly sug. getting a sportsman, or R block.
I mean a girdle has its camp that says they only hold the parts together, and the camp that says they do give you more strength. and the girdle comes with the level 10 in the pro bullet. I didnt quite figure out how removing more of the block in a CNC process is going to make the parts that are too small stronger

All I can say is that YES you DEFINITELY want the threaded oil passage blocks. PLEASE PLEASE just trust me on this. I just spent over $3000 because the only thing my dad and I didn't do ourselves(machining the block) included these oil plugs. The idiot machinist that did the work installed the plugs wrong, which fell into the timing chain, killed my oil pressure, and called for an almost complete rebuild. You want these passages tapped and plugged with actual bolts. Other than that, I'd say the level 20 is bull****... it's like when ricers talk about their "stage 2 exhaust with stage 3 chip" it doesn't really mean anything.
