Dyno Baseline Testing... $150.00 Too Much?

Hello Again,
Sorry to spam with so many questions, but, I'm trying to pick up on things as fast as I can.

At any rate, the shop I made an appointment with charges $150 /hr to do baseline testing, and told me it would take an hour to do. Then, $125 /hr after that when I bring it in. Is this a fair price?

That is way over priced...to get a baseline horsepower and torque reading you only need to do 2 or 3 pulls which takes about 15 mins...including setup time. I did my baseline this past friday at my local dynoshop...2 pulls with wideband O2 reading for $60.00.

I got quoted 150 also.

Should be no more than $100 for 3 pulls, doesn't matter where you live....

I even asked the guy on the phone if $150.00 was "reasonable" (since I had no clue) and he said he paid $160,000 for the machine and I might be able to get a better deal elsewhere, but his machine was meant for Mustangs. <shrug> What did I know?

By the sound of your original post it sounds like he quoted you a price of renting the dyno for a whole hour of pulls. You do not need this for just getting a baseline reading. Renting the dyno is what you do if you want to tune the car and make adjustments after each pull. For a baseline you just need to put it on there 2 or 3 times and let if fly...shouldn't take longer then 20 mins.

i've paid anywhere from $60-$75 for 3 pulls. that sounds like way to much for a baseline run.
