dyno numbers on a tuned 05

whats up everyone,
me and a buddy of mine went up to a local speed shop to have a cold air and a SCT tune put in his 05 we did a before dyno run stock (except Mac 3inch catback) and he put down 264HP
now after the MAC CAI and the tune he put down 278HP are those number normal? do you guys think he can get a better tune or are those normal numbers? will he get better numbers switching from 87 octane to 93?

post your results with somewhat the same mods
thanks for the help!

The number after the CAI and tune seem low, but maybe that is b/c he is using 89 octane (I am as well, but haven't dyno'd the car yet). Most people seem to be getting around 20hp (give or take) from a tune and CAI, so it isn't like his numbers are way off, but they are a little low. Then again, I can't install my CAI without my CEL coming on so what do I know, lol.

the tune is probably conservative. the tuner doesnt want to damage your car, so it would be better to do a conservative tune, rather than agressive. you wont complain as much about -5 hp compared to a blown engine.....

Don't stress about dyno numbers.
Different dyno(s) will put out different numbers. They are not the end all measurement. They are a great tool for measuring gains though.

My Superflow Dyno numbers were about 285rwhp.. from what I hear, those numbers are usually around 7-10% lower than dynojet numbers. Which would put me at rough and dirty.. 300+rwhp which is inline with other custom tuned 2005 Mustang GTs.

The car before custom tune running the canned Steeda CAI Predator tune was putting down 274rwhp and gained quite abit just on tune.

So really don't stress out about the dyno numbers.

I agree, all dyno's are different, and newer dyno's that aren't broken in yet read lower than normal, also atmospheric conditions and even tire condition and size makes a difference. The dyno is a tuning tool, not a something that determines if your car is faster than another.
