E20 in the 97GT- RESULTS

I finished the first tank of E20. Mileage was 20.0 MPG which is exactly what I get while running regular gasoline. I was definately not nice to the car this week either. It runs no different on E20 than it does with regular gasoline.

I went ahead and filled up with E30 and did some more testing. I timed another 25-90 3rd gear run, and after correcting for the weather, there is absolutely no change in power output compared to gasoline. (sigh, I was hoping the oxygenated fuel would help). I have yet to hear a single ping either. It pings a bit badely on 87 in certain weather. It'll be a bit warmer later this week though.

I also put the wideband on. As before with gasoline only, it displays 13.7:1 at low rpms and fattens up to 12:1 by 5000. Of course, it has no problem maintaining 14.7:1 at cruise, as usual. Absolutely no change for AFs. And this is with E30 in the tank. Obviously, the computer can compensate for the change very well.

Clearly, as indiated by every article you'll ever find, running E20 or E30 in a modern non-flex-fuel vehicle is no problem at all.

Thats awesome. Now where did you get E30 from? Don't most gas stations just offer E85, or straight gas?
Is that 20mpg in city driving? If so that's roughly as 3mpg increase which I think is pretty cool.

You are right, most stations have regular gas, 10% ethanol or E85. I got it from a newly built station here, a Zarco 66 with 'earth friendly fuels'. However, all I see when I see E85 is race gas with 102 octane that costs less than premium.

The 20mpg is typical for my driving. I drive about 60% highway, and the highway that I do it typically at 80mph. My point was, the mileage didn't change. I've seen several studies even stating mileage improvements on E20 and E30 vs streight gasonline, which you wouldn't expect at all considering the lower energy content.

I doubt it would cause any problems because E85 already has a gas mixed in it. It would actually be a good way to dilute the octane level for cars designed for 87-93 octane.
