hey, i was wondering what you guys think about the edelbrock victor jr. heads...i think i got screwed over by the douche bag that sold me the holley heads i have now...they were the only used part i put on my 331 stroker when i built it...it smoked...i put them on my stock bottom end and even when they had been work over by a professional and it still smokes...i think the heads may be cracked or something cause the smoke smells like a combination of water wapor, gas, and oil...NASTY!
so i need new heads...i think. what are the victor jrs. like compared to all the rest of the stuff today...i just noticed that the intake runner volume it much bigger than all the other heads i've looked at...what does the intake runner volume do for me power wise? let me know what you think...thanks!

victor jr's are hi revving big HP heads from what I know, they are pretty big heads, 2.05" intake and i forget the exhaust. Id try something like the afr 185, I think that would be a good match on ur car, or even the trickflow twisted wedge heads also something like the edelbrock rpm heads, cant go wrong with any of them

Victor jr's will make more power on a 331 over the afr 185's. Assuming the cam and rest of the combo are well thought out. They are not "high revving" heads. When you build bigger inches you need to feed them bigger parts. Swap your valve springs to match the cam too.

Here is a perfect example of victor jr heads doing their thing on a stroker. Its a 347 thought, but close enough. If money wasn't tight when I did my 347, I was either gonna have my TW heads ported or sell them and run the vic jr's.

Nice article.

Keep in mind the OP is only running a TFS stage I cam.

i was pretty ignorant about how performance stuff worked together...i went with others opinions without doing research...i am currently in school for automotive so im learning...i agree that the cam is too small now that i know a little bit of what im doing...i should not have bought used heads...since i've learned my lesson good this is what i will be building soon...since the 331 is out of the car right now, i'll just rehone it and rering it...i'll be going with a trickflow stage 2 cam or x-cam, performer rpm heads or victor jrs. (i think performer rpms will be better for the application) 1.7 rockers, performer rpm II intake, and the same exhaust setup...what do you think? i think i will have better broad power this way instead of peak power...let me know if you have any other setup ideas...i wanna make this thing pretty mean but still streetable...

Do you have to pass emissions? The Victors Jr do not have emissions ports.

Have your Holleys pressure checked (can't mag alum) to see if there are any issues. Do a compression test and a leakdown test.

If you go with the Victor Jr's go with a custom cam, 1.6 rockers. Nothing out of the box really fits good. 400RWHP+ is very obtainable.

no i live in kansas...its pretty much the smog land of opportunity...no emissions at all! i think i'll go with some performer rpms...what do you think of the setup on my post before yours?

so you guys think that the victor jr. heads are better for the rpm II instead of rpm performers? What kind of cam should i go with since i still want this car to be streetable? X-cam, trick flow stage 2, b-cam?

I have the vics on my 331 and LOVE THEM!
you cant judge by my 1/4 times because of traction and tuning issues, but the motor is VERY strong. my car will break the nitto DRs loose in 3rd gear from a roll..... rick will tell ya ;)

Mike is right, the power of the motor really depends on a custom cam. I would not use the TFS 1. If you want it to make the peak HP numbers and performance, talk to Jay Allen or Ed. I chose Jay becasue he designed the cam for what I wanted and not what would just bring crazy dyno numbers. my cam makes a ton of power to 6k (factory rev limiter :() and will go beyond that too. I can also jump in it and head to the mall or drive nearly 2 hours to my GFs parents house.

edit: I am also running the TFS R intake as well too. The rpm 2 would also be a good choice.

on a side note: jeremy, i think that those heads/cam setup is not a good choice for that vic jr intake. the vic jr heads would really help that setup.
