I had some free time today so I got a few things done on the II.

First off I bolted a C4 with the II bellhousing to a 302, added a stock efi intake, broke out and installed my hooker 6120's, along with my NOS motor and transmission mounts for one last test fit before cutting a hole in the firewall for the EFI harness. The vacuum port on the very top of the TB just barely touches the hood, the TPS nolonger makes contact. the correct engine angle and additional weight have made for more clearence than when Nat posted a picture BUT not quite enough clearence. If my motor mounts were used and had settled a bit then it would all clear.

I have also removed the dash, and the heater, AC, and blower assembly today to prevent damage to them while cutting my holes. I still have a long way to go I need to get some parts, paint the engine bay, replace the heater and evaperator cores, and more. I hope to get some pics up on the wiki as I progress.

Thanks for the update

Why a new thread though?

I found your previous post by searching your profile and the links to wiki.

I am looking at doing the same type of thing. When you say NOS engine and tranny mounts I assume you mean the '76 ones. Would a different 302 mount lower your engine position? I though there were convertible mounts available that sat lower, but you may not have the clearance underneath.
Keep the info coming.

I made this post after being up nearly 60 hours (1 and a half days) and actually forgot about the previous post when I started this thread. NOS = New Old Stock and alot of the parts we Mustang II owners get that are actually for our cars happen to be NOS parts. The reason convertable (fox body) motor mounts are not used is because they don't fit a Mustang II. When dealing with a V8 Mustang II there is exactly 1 set of motor mounts that fit.

And on a sad note I saw that 77CobraII has traded his car off, that car happens to be the one that inspired my EFI conversion.

Thanks.
Do you know what makes the MII 302 mounts so specific?
Is there any chance of using V6 mounts with an 302?

the 302 is a 90 degree V8 engine. The width and height of the engine are the majority of the reasons for the motor mounts design, these mounts also provide the correct engine/transmission angle (essential for prolonging the life of your u-joints).

The V6 found in the Mustang II is a 60 degree cologne V6 engine, similar to some of the 4.0L engines found in Ford Rangers. This makes the engine narrower than the V8 engine.

When swapping a V8 into a non V8 car you not only have to get V8 specific motor mounts you also need to get the V8 frame mounts that the motor mounts bolt up to. The website MustangII.org has a good V8 swap article at http://mustangii.org/tech/tipsntricks/302swap.shtml
and my work in progress EFI conversion article can be found on the Mustang II wiki website http://IIwikid.com

I was curious why MII mounts are so specific in a 302 application on a MII.
My question about a V6 swap was for me only. (That is what I am planning)
Can any other 302 engine mount be used on a MII or is there a fittment problem?
G.A. Heath thanks for your replies, I am not trying to pick a fight just looking for info.

I do not know of any other motor mount that will interchange, in fact I am certain many people here and on the mailing list have searched as well as my self. I can tell you that an area machine shop had expressed interest in building a set of frame mounts that will accept fox body motor mounts. Unfortunately they went out of business trying to build and market some niche products. It could be possible to fabricate such a frame mount if one has the time and materials. Just remember that the position of the engine affects the car's handling and the reliability of the car's power-train.
