Engine bay smoothing/welding/whatever

What did you use to do the process?
I remember seeing pictures of a few of you doing it.
I recall one with a welder in hand. one with some sort of putty.
and somebody using some sort of 3M tape.

Im considering doing this soon. i want to know how much of a ordeal im getting into. I do have the whole summer to kill just about

Just curious on how you all went about doing it?
what kinda welder, equipment etc

I welded, smoothed, layered/smoothed completely with All Metal, finished the body work, and painted.

I welded smoothed and used Bondo. Havent had any issues other than I could have done a better job.

well my buddy did mine he also welded and filled every hole and painted the engine bay the same theme as the outside of the car was alot of work but well worth it.... ENJOY

I've been thinking about it alot since my engine is out... And I think I am going to try and fiberglass the holes in my engine bay... I just don't know how "straight" it will look when I finish... But I was also thinking about holding off and getting a friend to weld the holes up and then i'd smooth it out.

well. the paint on my coupe has gone to ****.
so i figured if im going to paint it.. i might as well do it right and get everything done

Any type. Just depends how much 'heat' you put to it.
I did the same thing. Only thing I regret is doing it better. LOL. I'm never satisfied.
Winter 2006/2007 calls for a 'redo'. I think I'm going with a different look to the bay for next year.
Follow MansonOzz's instructions on his site. Very, very helpful.

Just used a mig and filled the small holes, cut out plate with the plasma cutter (or you can use a cutting disc and a grinder) for the bigger holes and welded that in. I then used a product called all metal to start the smoothing process, few layers of that and sand between each layer, then my body man used skim coats of bondo for the final smooth.

Well worth it looks and style wise. espically if you plan on a battery re-location kit.
