O.K. so you see what I have in my signature. Right now my motor is down to the short block because I had coolant in the oil and I thought it was a headgasket or cracked head, but I believe it was due to the intake manifold having several bolts that were so loose you could move them by hand. Anyways I figured since I have it aprart I will definately change the heads, iron or aluminum I have no clue yet, that's why I'm asking for opinions. With my setup now I'm running about 9:1 compression I was thinking of going to around 10 or 10.5:1 KB hyper pistons because I don't want to pay $500 for piston and get a set of GT40 heads. Now would I be better off bumping up the compression and GT40 heads or just getting a set of used aluminum heads and staying with the compression I have now, not using car as daily driver so don't mind putting high octane fuel in it. I do have a set of old TRW or Federal mogul domed pistons, but couldn't find any info on them they were posted up in the forum a couple days ago, I could use them but compression is probably about 11.5:1 with 62cc heads. Also don't plan on running power adders, but don't really wanna fork out money for aluminum heads and domed pistons, but will for iron heads cause the price will be about the cost of the aluminum heads alone and will the 2.02 valve heads fit with newer aftermarket pistons. Also should I change out the E-303 cam or leave it? Thanks

So you already have the hyper pistons? I'm confused by some of the wording in your post. I'd suggest spending the extra coin on the forged (if you haven't bought pistons already), that way if you ever decide to run a power adder, you have that option. Might be cheaper now, but you never know what may happen in the long run.

If I were you, I'd jump on a set of aluminum heads. People seem to really prefer TF Twisted Wedge or AFR 165s. GT-40s are cheap and all, but you'll see some serious performance out of either of those aluminum heads.

Also, I'd go with a 9.5-10.5 CR with any head swap, unless you are planning a 'charger of some sort in the future. Detonation won't be a problem if you run premium and can keep the engine cool.

Yes, I have hyper flat tops about 9:1 with stock heads that are in the engine now, I do also have a set of I believe they are forged dome TRW pistons that I've had for years I posted them on here with pictures trying to find info on them, but didn't get any replies they look exactly like the L2249 TRW pistons I would use them but don't know what kind of compression it'll make. If I used them I'd have know problem forking out the money for the aluminum heads, but if I don't then I don't want to dish out 500 for forged pistons and another 1000 for aluminum heads. I was thinking of going with hyper dome pistons and iron heads to keep cost low, unless I just use the domed forged ones I have and buy aluminum heads. But I would have to figure out what the compression would be and what size rings it takes. Any opinion on this

pick up a set of aftermarket heads of any variety and you will see a 30 horse or better increase in your current combo. also that eddy carb is leavn alot on the table i suggest a holley 600 dp and a step up to a 3.73/ 4.10 if you dont have already. that e cam will work fine.

Thanks for the input. What do you think on the pistons should I put some domed pistons in to higher the compression? Could you also explain more on the carb selection, what's wrong with edelbrock carb, how much would the holley help? And I am going to be getting 3.55 or 3.73 gears also.

The e-cam works really well in a budget/ported stock stuff combo.

Get a set of gt40 heads, have them along with the intake ported. Take .040" off them if you are worried about compression and run a 1011 HG.
Switch to a holley and go with the 3.73s

I would say you would be in the 270-280rwhp range with a stick and be out around $1,200 for the heads/port work, carb and gear.

Thanks for the input, you are the second person who has said to switch the carb to a holley. Another person replied and said a holley 600dp. Would you recommend the same thing and could you tell my why to switch to a holley. I'm just wondering and haven't messed with carbs to much except the fuel/air mixture.
