i have started saving for a engine swap. my question is how do you guys fell about this.....Like my car. its a GLX. I really like the car becasue the fact that it is my first fox body. i don't like the fact its a v6.

but i guess the V6 will keep me alive so i have a chance to have a mustang with a V8

My plans are a v8 and 5 speed when i turn 17 over the winter.ill have to buy a beater or something to drive but anyways....when you convert your car from say a 4 cyl to a v8 do you now have the right to call it a GT or LX or what? or have you kept it say the glx to keep the sleeper factor.

did ford put V8's in the GLX convertables?

just one of them things that keep me up at night

thank you. :SNSign:

GLX's were 4 and/or 6 cyl. They were never 8 cyl.
I'd say keep it a GLX for the sleeper look.

BTW - good to see you changed your avatar!

You have the right to call the car only what it is.

If it's a GT and you converted to an LX with all the body kit, it's still a GT. Same goes for an LX converted to a GT with body kit, it's still an LX.

If you convert a non-Cobra car to a Cobra clone, it's NOT a Cobra.

You will have to continue to call your car a GLX.

mustang history site says that they came in 6 cyl and 8 cyl. no 4 cyl. hmm so i guess a v8 in my glx would be cool then. people would give me that weird look when i said i drive a glx.... they would go wtf is that.

Yea - but that is what's cool about a GLX. They aren't that common. Keep it a GLX!

How do you feel about someone making a Cobra clone and calling it a Cobra?

Good point - it should be called a GT clone.

That's what I mean. I'm not going to make a big deal about someone calling their GT an LX since it's been swapped over, but it's still cheesy. On the other hand, if someone makes a Cobra clone and calls it a Cobra, it's a little more retarded and people are gonna make a big deal.

honestly I dont think youll do the swap, just because in 3 years you will have other stuff on your mind, the money will always go somewhere at you're age, trust me, and at 17 once you have enough money to do an engine swap you wont spend the thousnds of bucks to do it.

If it were me, id look for a cheap donor motor, find a 302 roller long block for like 75 bucks. Tear it apart, have a shop machine it make it all pretty. Find a cheap explorer intake, cheap gt40p heads, and a decent cam. Start buying all the accesories. Id say get an engine stand and put the engine on it as soon as possible to get started. Trust me you wont just dump that much money all at once at your age, do it little by little. Tell your dad as your getting older you will slowly put money into it so when you 17 it will be ready.

Yeah.. it's that little thing on your car. I think it's called a "VIN #"
Right, see... you can make your car look however you want, but you can't change what it is and always will be.

call it a glx cobra, I am with Mob though, you will get bored with this car and find something else to do. I would just leave it alone. then in a few years you can tell everyone that you had a turd v6 for your first car.

When I was 14 I had dreams of putting a 5.0 in my pacecar. I kept working for it and it finnaly happened. Now the car is in a magazine and was in a 2006 calander. Stop bustin his balls, if he puts his mind to it and realy likes the car even as it is now, he will get what he wants.

I am not trying to bust any balls, I think it is great that you got your car in a magazine and have gotten everything you wanted out of it. I am just commenting on the attention span, patience, and focus factor of the common teenager. Ryan power to you if you do get the swap done. it's something I was never able to do at that age. as soon as I got money it went towards anything but what I was saving for. hell, even now I would have a hard time committing to a project like that.
