Facts & Opinions: 245 vs 275 (For Front Tires)

I am going to soon be buying some tires and was wondering what the advantages and disadvangages were to 275's over 245's for the front tires. Can you please share with me both your opinions and the facts that you know about the handling, performance, noise, gas milage, etc on these widths? Thanks!

P.S. If it makes a difference, the tires will be going on 18x9 wheels. Also if it matters what the front tires will be paired with, I will be getting 315/35ZR18s in the back on 18x10 deep dish wheels.

245 Tires are not wide enough for a 9 inch rim.... they will look all stretched

please tell me where you have found a 315/35/18 tire?

Go with 265's up front. 275's may* rub (my Proxes do)

Yes it makes a difference. 9 inch rims are way too wide for 245s. They look retarded and youll risk scraping your rims. I have 265/35s - just slightly lower sidewall, width is resonable. I'm going 275/35 next time. Exactly the same height as stock and perfect width for an 18x9 rim (I have them on the back right now).

Thanks for not being a dick and saying "315/35/18 doesn't exist! You're stupid!" I didn't do my research before posting, but did afterwards. I could not find any ANYWHERE. Best I could find was 315/30/18. Do you know if there is any spacing difference up front between the early SN95 and the late SN95 platform?

I have scraped my rims MANY times...these wheels and tires came on the car when I bought it 2 years ago. I'll look into the 265/35s. Thanks a bunch.

Thank you for your opinions guys. I think I have made my mind up on some BFGoodrich KDW-2s, 265/35/18 in the front and 295/35/18 in the back. (blech, wish I could get wider in the KDW-2s)

Does anyone know if 335/30/18 will fit in the back with exhaust modifications? I haven't been able to find any discussion about this. Thanks again guys.

I had a thread a couple of weeks back asking what I should run on my 17x9
wheels.... I was running 255's all around which made for really tight handeling.
the sidewalls were flat to the rims and looked good and protected the rims
from scraping. Most people who replied said I should go with 275's all the
way around.... so I did, got the bfg g-force, and I'm glad I did.. they have
a way better, meaner look, softer ride, no rubbing at all in front (not lowered)
Mabey just a tiny bit of a sidewall flex feel when doing hard turns but overall
nice improvment. Some people said they had a tracking issue where the front
wheels would follow groves or imperfections in the road with 275's but I have
not had that problem at all........also these tires are awesome for the $.

KDWs are a good choice. Mine have a nice rim protecting edge that extends out a little. I'd always scrape my tire before the rim - but thats never happened yet. I'll go 275 next time, but 265s are fine too.

I don't have the 18's, but I have 17x9 in the front with 275's, and aside from the fact that they are Sumi's (which suck ass on the highway, and grab every single line in the road and veer off with them,) I haven't noticed any difference at all, in handling, gas mileage, noise, etc.

lol, no problem. I know BFG lists that size on their site, but as far as I (and a LOT of guys with 18" DD) know, they are a myth. I have 315/30/18 BFG DR's on now and they look but suck in the rain

Im probably gonna have to go with 295/35's and maybe a 1/4" wheel spacer, if I want to keep that look.

I do not know if there is a spacing difference between the SN-95s and New Edge stangs, sorry.

Having 315s vs 295s w/ 1/4" spacer I don't think will create the same look. I really want the look of a friggen wide @$$ tire back there. If you're looking for the look of them sticking out flush with the quarter panel, maybe a 1/2" will do the trick. Just remember that 20mm (315mm - 295mm = 20mm) is equivelent to 0.787in.

I REALLY want some 335s if they would fit!

EDIT: The 335s won't be available until January. They said 315s might even be available then too.

I guess that I'll chime in with my setup, previous and current.

My previous setup was 18x9" Mach 1 rims all around, with 275/3518 BFG gForce KDW2. The tires handled great, although they pulled at every crack in the road, and we have some *****ty roads here in San Diego. Up front, the edge of the wheels/tires sat flush with the outer fender edge, but in the back they didn't. I installed a 1" spacer on the rear, which pushed the tires out flush with the fenders.

After that set of tires wore out, I purchased a set of BFG gForce Sports, same size all around. The gForce Sports provide just as much traction, but aren't nearly as loud as the KDWs on the freeway. I never had the KDWs on the track, but I just had the Sports on the track last weekend. The surface was traction limited for everyone there, so I can't really comment on how well they hook on the track. Impromptu launches on the street, they hook about the same.

who is "They"? Did you speak with BFG? Cause if they're gonna come out with 315s in a street tire (even if they are 30 profile) thats sweet.

Theres a guy in our car club with 295s and they look pretty sweet. Maybe a 1/4 isnt enough, but I think it will still look badass, like this.....

i agree with the 275's on a 9"

i have sumitomo 275/40R17 on a 17x9, adn it follows EVERY curve/bump/whatever in the road

I currently run 275's on my front tires and they do rub a little bit on a full lock turn. I would have gone with 265's, but i got the tires with the rims and it was a good deal.

It's weird, but I hear a rubbing sound when I turn my wheels all the way, either way. I've had a few of my friends look at it while I was turning the wheel, they said they could see any rubbing! It boggles my mind. This is with 245s on 18x9s.

That is flippin' SWEET. Please tell me EXACTLY how he achieved that look...are those only 295's?!

P.S. Wheel spacers (that come with inline studs) are outrageously expensive...but they may actually be worth it.

For the tires I want, 265's are $2 more per tire. Do you think they'd be worth the extra $4? haha...

WOW. i am about to purchase the KDW2s 295/35/18 and I want that look so bad. my 285s arent cutting it. are those seriously 295s?

After looking at the picture, I think they are exactly the 295 KDW-2s!!! Look at the tread pattern!

I just wonder what kind of spacer he used!

No, they are 315/30/18 BFG Drag Radials. The largest size (as of now) that BFG makes in a street tire for us is 295/35s. They look good, but not as good as the 315s

I want a 315 street tire bc 1) it lasts longer, and 2) its a LOT safer in the rain.

Some companies manufacture a 315 street tire, like Michilen, but they're outrageously expensive, like $350+ per tire. On top of that, BFGs run wider than most other brands, so even a Michellin 315 may* not give us that same
look.

nope, 315/30 BFG Drags. The outer tread pattern is similar, but they are DR's, not the KDW2's that kick ass in dry AND rain.
