Fat Rear Tires.

All -

Forgive me if this is a dead-horse of a topic. I searched, but was unable to find anything of relevance with ease.

Q: What is the fattest tire I can ram onto the stock '95 Cobra rims? The current tire size is 255/45/ZR17. Are the stock rims 8" or 9" wide? Would like fatter meats on the rear...

A:...that's up to y'all...

Tnx. :hail2:

Aren't the stock '95 Cobra wheels the teardrop-style? I'm 99.9995% sure they are 8" just like the GT wheels and the '98 Cobra wheels. I think you guys are mistaking them for the '95 Cobra R's, unless those are the ones he is reffering to, which are 9", in which case, yes, you could probably go with 315's.

315s on a 9inch rim? That would look silly. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

I have 315s on a 10.5 inch rim, and it looks pretty perfect. On a 9 inch rim I'd put a 285 tops, MAYBE a 295.

Its actually not bad at all. But whatever you wanna say.

My buddies car with 315s on a 9 inch wheel. Looks just fine.

95 Cobra Wheels are the same as GT Wheels: 17x8.

I have 275/40's on 2003 Cobra wheels. When I get new tires, I'm going with at least 285/40's. A bit bigger, but still will fit without bulging.

I would really like to see a CLOSE -UP shot of some 315's on 17x9's. I'm sure it bulges out. If it doesn't, you can be sure a pair will be out back on my car. My buddy has 275's on his 17x8's, and it bulges big time.

It all depends on brand and how the sidewalls are made. My sig says which ones I've got, but those are essentially a no-warranty cheaper version of the Fireston Firehawk Wide Ovals, and they don't seem to bulge at all on my 17x8 Cobras. IIRC Nitto's also fit quite well in this size. I can't remember which ones you should stay clear of if you want 275's, but a knowledgable salesman should be able to point you in the right direction. I'm very happy with the fit and the added traction of mine, no problems whatsoever.

You might get lucky and be able to get away with it if you run nitto DR's, wouldn't bet the farm on it though. I run 10.5's out back with 315 DR's and actually wish I had a little more meat back there. The nitto drags run very narrow. My old 275 DR was about the same width as my regular 255 555 was. Because of it being so narrow mine looks a bit disproportionate if you look closely between front/rear.
