8" wide wheel should go no wider than 265

9" wheel should go no wider than 285

on my 17x8" i ran 255/40/17

i went to 17x9" and ran the same tire--looks a little stretched, i will put a 275 on the rear soon

fwiw the '00 cobra r runs 18x9.5 with a 265 tire.

you CAN fit alot of bigger tires on wheels, but it can be detremental to handling.

that is all i will say on the matter.

315/35-17 on a 9" rim =

315/35-17 on a 10.5" rim =
275/40-17 on 9" =
275/40-17 on 8" =
255/45-17 on 8" =

Tire manufacturers have approved tire/rim sizing charts. USE them

The optimal rim for me would be an 11" for a 315/35-17 BFG DR. I notice a slight bulging with them as is on a 10.5. a 315 on a 9" would look like ass, and is about as smart as the low riders with skinny white walls on Daytons that are so far offset that the bearings must fail every other day.

Somebody with 315's on a 9" should post those pics. See how fast the center of that tire wears.

The MINIMUM I have seen for a 315 is 10" most recommend 10.5-12.5.

Okay...so does anyone know of a manufacturer (or eBayer) who sells replica stock cobra rims for a '95 in a
9", 10" or 10.5" wide vareity? I like the look of the fatties, but really like the stock cobra rims.

Nope....the only option you have is to have the stock rims widened, And then if they can only change the offset to the inside you would have to use spacers.

If it was cheap and easy I would have a set myself. I too like the stock Cobra wheels.

AFS makes the following in 10.5. Those are the only replicas made in that width that I know of.

Im running 275/40/17 BFGoodRich g-Force Sport tires on my stock Cobra rims (17"x8"). I wouldnt go with anything less.

Here is an old picture of 275/40/17 Goodyear GS-C tires. I dont have a good picture of the rearend of the new tires.

That stance is just about what I am looking for, I'd love to tub the rear and put a spool in, but for a regular, street driver, the 275s will have to do...
Funny, the a$$ of your car looks like mine! (except taillights), and fatter rear tires, and different lic plate, and exhaust, but identical I tell ya! LOL.

you say it looks fine, but my eyes see a very different story. even in those pictures you can tell the rear tires are bulged way too much.

i would bet that if your buddy switched to a more proper sized tire his car would handle a lot better.

Just remember when running 275's upfront, you will rub a little bit when going lock-to-lock turning.

So, both our cars are identically....black?

Almost right... black 'Stangs! ! Ha ha.

The 17x11" rims above are just to the point of silly. It takes the look to the extreme, but to each his own. Too much for a street car. It's like seeing a 340 rear tire on a crotch rocket. Too much for the street and obnoxious off the street. Show/cosmetic only.

Don't get me wrong, it clearly bulges some, but I personally have never looked at it and said, wow that looks like crap. It's just really not that much of a standout. And yes, Im sure its not providing optimal handling, its just something he sacrificed for the look without having to buy new wheels.

i'm just sayin that he could have bought a smaller tire(less $$$) and had the same contact patch. oversized or stretched tires are kind of a pet peave of mine.
