Felpro water pump gasket - use sealant or no sealant? That is the question..

I heard some say yes to both..

Any good tips on water pump installation? From the forums I do not think it will be too bad..

i used a little on both sides. i did one side and put it on the water pump for a few minutes for it to tack on. then just enough to line around the gasket on the other side.

Yep I agree that you should put sealant on both sides of the gasket. Let it tack up a bit before putting on.

I always put sealant on both sides and my pumps never leak.

The Duralast pump I just bought has a gasket on the pump already (which I will remove and put in the Felpro). Do I need sealant pump to plate and plate to block or just plate to block?

Gasket technology has improved a lot over the past 10-15 years. You really don't need any sealer, but if it makes you feel better... If I use anything it's just a dab to hold the gasket in place.

I put sealant around the whole thing pretty much, does wonders for keeping the gasket in place during installation.

high tack

I would use high tack on all sides of the water pump gaskets, its that purple stuff in a metal can that has a brush built into the cap. I only use silicone to make a gasket not too put on a gasket.

Few things worse than gobs of sealant squishing out. Use it sparingly.

Also put some antiseize on the bolts to help with the corrosion...youll see what I mean when you remove the bolts.

I am thinking it is not the water pump - it may be the radiator.. I posted a new thread..
