Fenders

I'm sure this has been discussed many times, and the consensus is always to find original or NOS fenders, but has anyone out there had any luck with repro fenders? If so, which vendor did you use?

I bought one about 4 years ago and with the car now being prepped for paint, we discovered it doesn't fit well where the door, cowel and hood meet.

How about the new repros "made with original Ford tooling"?

Any advice or testamonials will be appreciated.

I used repop fenders, valance, headlight buckets, bumpers, door skins, quarter skins, fiberglass hood, etc. All purchased from a local shop. Yes, these are the $99 import fenders. Spent maybe 2 extra hours tweaking them to get the fit "perfect". It wasn't THAT bad...

i bought fiberglass

and test fitted them and they fit like they are off a camaro or something.... but everything's fixable i guess

I had one that was made around 10 years ago. Hated it from the first day. The hood/fender curve was wrong, the door/fender curve was off. Metal felt weak. This was one of the cheap *** fenders. Much happier with a real one on there.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to bite the bullitt and buy one made from Ford tooling. This weekend CJ Pony Parts is having a 10% off sale so I'll wait til then. I haven't decided whether or not to by the Ford tooling headlight bucket too. I bought a new repro a few years ago; I'll take the gamble and see how it fits to the new fender.

Anyone looking for an already primed repro LF fender for a '67-'68?!!

i agree with the decision to go with the ford tooling. i bought a repo and it fit like sh** so i ended up buyin an original and it fit right into place. almost like it was meant to be there.

I think you can buy headlight buckets for fairly decent prices if you keep an eye out. The buckets are "pot" metal and dont have rust problems like the rest of our cars. Just something to think about.

My original bucket had a big crack in it, then I was given an original that also had a crack so I bought the repro. It's been stored for about 4 years. I'm getting close to the re-assembly process and found that the repro parts I bought don't fit well. I'm going to buy the correct fender and gamble on the bucket fitting. If it doesn't, I'll buy an original Ford tooling bucket.

Original Tooling, or Original Fenders are the way to go. Repops are hit or miss. I have a post with pictures and everything somewhere on here showing just how bad a repop fender was for my 68. I have one OEM headlight bucket and one repop bucket on my car. They both fit well. However the repop bucket is missing a hole in one of the mounting tabs.

Repop buckets are around $125 and up. There is a guy local here in OH that has OEM buckets he will sell for $65.00 If you are interested PM me and I will get you his contact info.

OK, thanks for your offer. After I get the new fender I'll see how the bucket matches up. I'm hoping it's a good fit.

I have a repro hood (turn signal type) on my '67. It came with the car. Fit is good. It was on the car when I bought it in 1994.

I bought repro fenders and the fit sucked... I got original tooling and they were perfect. Pay now, or pay later, fit wise. body work aside, fit is much easier in the first place. Up to you.

Last night I placed a $1600 (before discount) parts order with CJ Pony Parts which included the original Ford tooling LF fender. That should round out what I needed to get it in paint so I can begin reassembling the car after being apart for almost 11 years!
