Those are cats. There should be four on the pipe. Def hang onto the pipe and don't let the exhaust shop keep it. 10 years ago cat pipes were throwaways to a lot of guys here....now the cats are worth some $$$ in metals.

You can drive with the air pump open. It's gonna be loud as he'll and sound like an exhaust leak
What does the exhaust shop want to do? Weld the pipe to the new h pipe?

Here is an easier way. Get a hacksaw and cut open the welded end. So now you have the open end of the pipe from the pump and the open end on the h pipe. Spray with wd-40 and slide a 3/4" peice of heater hose on both and use hose clamps. This is how many of us connect the pipes.

Some aftermarket pipes even come with the heater hose to do this. Then if you need to remove it ever, no need to cut

I just want the shop to take off the old pipe and put on the new h pipe, weld what they have to weld, and make it run...

Im going to pick up a shorter belt to just bypass the smog pump all together...

question is, is it ok to drive it like that? with the air inlet welded shut on the pipe w cats on it for now? just until i get the new H welded up?

Also, i really dont hear any noise coming from the air pump like a leak or anything, so that might just be a plug they decided to use...

def looks like fluid stains running down that pre cat! Check for leaks! Valve cover gasket at the rear of the pass head, rear main seal shot and slinging oil all over...

So i inspected the pre cat a bit closer, and it seems there IS / WAS some liquid on it that got burnt, causing the smoke... problem is, i dont know where it came from.

It is on the inside of the pre cat, out of view of the valve cover, so i know thats not it, plus no fluids leaking there... its almost where the starter is...

There isnt alot of it on there, but its like somthing spurted onto it and just started burning... I do see some damp / liquid coming hanging near where the tranny to motor plate thing is...

If it was the rear main, would i see alot of oil leakage everywhere?

Its ok that way. Oil could be the rear main starting to leak. How many miles?

Probibly like, 500 on the motor...

I just drove the car around again, putting a little stress on her, trying to recreate the issue, and it didnt happen, and this is after a LONGER drive than before. I even did a few burn outs in her just for old times sake... I checked the same spot that had the crap on it before, and it was smoking again, not as bad this time... which makes me wonder if it was somthing on the old pipe (like i said, JY Autoshops FTW) that is being burnt off now...

Another thing is it smells like im running an outboard motor, such a strong odor of gas in the exhaust, but im thinking thats a injector and MAF issue... the JY decided to put 14# injectors in the car... stockers are next on the list.

FYI this is not my daily driver, lol

Is it coolant coming out of the overflow? Aka toasted heater core?

You can drove like that fine. I've been driving 6 years with a catted h pipe and no smog. It's there, but I have a short belt on. Maybe this weekend I'll get the correct belt to make it functional again.

Cuz I want cats. I can't stand the off-road smell and noise. Just not my thing, and most mustang cat setups require the o2 to work properly.

It's 3 pounds and maybe 1/4hp....plus my pump, and hoses are all newly painted and shiny. I just like things to work properly. All my smog equipment is functional even though I don't have emissions testing

No, not coolent overflow, i dont think it would leave a gunky oily mark on the pre cat. Whatever it is im going to clean it off and run her, see if it comes back... I have high oil pressure, then it drops to about mid to 75% on the guage, not over heating.

And i dont know why they used 14lbrs but they did, pulled the part numbers...

18lbers are on the way, hopefully that clears up the running rich issue.

Another question, if i do get my 30# injectors and my calibrated MAF (yes, the shop may still have them), they would be fine on the stock fuel lines and everything, right?
