Build Thread Finally! 89 Notch 2v Swap Progress Thread Project: 89mach1

The biggest issue for me right now are the terrible 1/4 windows. The molding is so brittle it cracks, and I am tapped! I don't have $300+ to buy a new set. I've been hoping that somebody finds a way to make the covers look good, but I always hear the same negative reviews. Soooo...

As for the 1/4 window trim I've heard on numerous occasions from people that you can tape them up and spray the rubber with high build primer, and even apply filler if needed. Then sand them down and paint with trim black. It's supposed to work really well.

Brittle or not, it'd work in a pinch. Primer and trim paint is cheap. Replace them later as funds permit.

Mine have about 10-15 cracks in each of them. I think they are throw aways.
I'll look at them today and see if it makes sense to spend the time filling the cracks (I just think they'll crack in a new place).

There have been several people on this forum revive a ****ty set of quarter windows. Start searching threads or someone will chime in. Your car is badass and it would suck for a shoddy pair of quarter windows to grab someones attention rather than all of the other work. (Not saying that it would)

Yeah, and I agree w/ you completely. You and I both know it would. every other piece of trim is either new, or cleaned and painted to appear "as new".

I sanded those windows yesterday after posting, and while one might be salvageable, the other is fk'd. Cracks go all the way through the rubber and the splits run to the glass. I hate to buy a salvage set, because I'll probably get more of the same. I guess that I'll call MPS, and Prestige tomorrow to see what junkyard pieces will cost. :nonono:

I picked up mine on CL for like $40 bucks. Got home and saw scratches in the window when i cleaned the glass, but with the tint on the car they look fine and we restored them at the body shop and the moldings look mint

Nope. Should be painted by next week. It has been primed and blocked two times now, and the painter verified that the color he has bought and the color I wanted are the same. ( 1969 Ford Candy Apple Red) I laid my eyes on it.
Both doors, the hood and trunk are off and on stands, they are ready for color inside so ........any day now.

It starts to turn red...

Well I said the I wasn't gonna post pictures of it painted until it was all back together, but these really don't tell you much ( except how "crimson" the actual Candy Apple Red color is on a black etching primer)

The pictures are poor, but they are "better-n-nuttin"

the paint overspray on the front end from the inside fender/under hood jamb work, lets you see the headlight bucket for the first time now that there is a color bright enough to set it off.

They said it will have the doors back on it tomorrow, as well as the hood and trunk. So I'm figuring the whole thing will be red and black by mid next week. :nice:
