does the hole in the wheel want to be the same diameter as the hub??? i always believed that to be the case, but am being told by a wheel guy that it doesn't matter if the wheel diameter is larger than the hub.

these are for a 73 mustang that i cannot find decent wheels for because of the 2 7/16" diameter hubs that i have

the older vehicles such as your did not use a "hub centric" wheel, which is what they use now.The wheels were centered using the lug nuts as opposed to a wheel being a tight fit over a hub.I think you should be ok with a bigger center, mine are the same.

It really doesnt matter much. Just take your time when installing lug nuts and do them evenly, bucause you're using your studs for centering the wheel on the hub. (lug centric)

If its a concern, you can allways install hubrings. an aluminum ring that fits snug on the hub , but now has the correct O.D. for the wheel center.
