flex a Form fiberglass springs

I looked into a set 2 years ago and the rep at FAF talked me out of set.

He warned me that stick cars making decent hp WILL have wheel hop. FAF springs need to be used with cal tracks to eliminate the wheel hop. At $400 for the springs and $300 for the cals plus shipping, I decided not to buy a set.

I was also told if I did any autoxing that I would need a device to keep the rearend centered. He told me that the spring will begin to fray at the spring mount if I didn't.

This IS second hand info....so take it for what it's worth.

I do know a couple of guys on here, have had wheelhop issues with the FAFs.

How is talking to the FAF rep "second hand" info?

Anyway, I have not had any problem with fraying or wheel hop and I think my 482 FE makes "decent HP". I do have staggered shocks, so that probably helps with the wheel hop.

Definitely recommended.

It's second hand info because I don't have a set on a car and neither did the the guy on the telephone.:nice: He could have been a total idiot for all I know.....

I'm not trying to talk anyone out of a set of these. I'd like to have a set myself. Just relaying the info that I was told.

Actually I'm more inclined to buy a set after listening to you guys.

I ended up buying a set of maiers 165 leafs and have been very happy with them. They solved my wheel hop issues without buying the cal tracks.

Anyone using FAF on a stick car?

Had the FAF's in mind to use for two years. Pulled the trigger on a pair today, bought'em from Alex at Money Maker Racing.
He recommended 225# rate, for the 2+2. Can't wait to gett'm on & the car running. This thread & the one on VMF were the push I needed. So the "to do list" grows more.

I'm dealing with an engine run problem right now, been kickin my butt.
The FAF's aren't going to help the engine problem, but the spouse had agreed, we needed new rear springs. Tire rub on highway trips. Reading the threads was the final nudge to buy.
I'm sure the FAF's are the right choice, but it's liable to be a while before they're road tested.
I'll post an impression then, though.

They arrived yesterday and for the first time in 6 weeks, I have a Saturday off. Had a couple of minor problems, but got them installed. We've got the 225lb springs. Won't have it back on the street for probably 2 months to test them. Had a couple of minor problems, the steel bushings in the from were a little too wide and had to ground down to get clearance and the bushing id for the shackles was .5" and needed to be 9/16". If youve just ordered them you may want to check diameters of the shackles - I had to drill them out, fortunatley the bushing was thick wall tubing.

Truck90278,

What year pony? I have a 66 and am about to order a set but wanted to make sure my front and rear inside diameter was correct when I placed my order.

Front - 1/2"
Rear - 9/16"

Is this correct for 66 Fastback?

Thank you,
Rus

Ours is a '65 coupe. FB should be the same. FF asked me initially on the front diameter as most are 1/2" but evidently there are a few with 9/16". I spoke to them today and mentioned the problem I had. Didn't get much response. Ours were the same as you show above. Fortunately the inserts are heavy wall and I could drill out the rear to 9/16".
