Until the next shiny one shows up, right? And then you'll realize there was never anything wrong with your gorgeous fox.

As touched upon in another post on here, I think the electronic cars will die a quick death when you can no longer buy the parts you need to keep them running.... Just a guess.... Like when Iran inherited the F15s ( or were they F14 Tomcats?) and he couldn't get parts to keep them flying.....

Should we touch upon Electric vehicles???? My guess is they will be BIG BUSINESS for the people who scrap them.... After the battery packs go kaput there will be MILLIONS of them being scrapped and soon the government will CHARGE you a scrap fee of thousands to do it..... Just my guess.... Property tax and the Death tax, they get you coming and going.......

I thought that too about electronic cars but I think they will be here to stay once things get even more optimized on the grid. Think Tron. I don't think parts will be hard to come by either, especially with advances in technology. Cars are getting lighter and stronger. Engines are being replaced by batteries. These batteries are getting better and better and eventually they will be able to be recycled fully, I think some of them are already able to do so. Need a specific part? You can print it on your own 3d printer at home. I knew a kid years ago who had a state of the art 3d printer when they first started to come out and it was super expensive, like pretty sure it costed as much as a used car. Also my university purchased some 3d printers and they had classes for it. You could see them in action on display at any time. This was years ago and they've only gotten bigger. Prices will keep dropping as 3d printers will probably start making 3d printers at some point, if they haven't done so already.

Saw an episode the other night on Jay Leno's garage where some car manufacturer has even started using 3d printing for the car's construction. They can test the car on the track, use the new data and make any changes and reprint a new model in a matter of hours. It was the czinger 21c, a new hypercar. Copied and pasted from google search, it was already bolded I didn't do that: "The 21C is made from an alchemy of data science and sophisticated 3-D printers, which produce recyclable metal alloys that eliminate the need for tooling."

Check it out it's actually pretty neat. Improvements to suspension production as well using data from physics and optimization of data. The Jay Leno episode was pretty informative, the owner of the company showed the facility and how it's done.

Here's the website which also has some cool videos: https://www.czinger.com/

Not getting rid of the fox. Ever.

But I do what another Mustang. Question is….which one and would it be a project or a new driver
You want a driver for sure... you've already done most of your project but you'll never be done with it. At least with a driver you can scratch the itch while working on the project at your own pace.

If the commie media will allow it, try to find out whats happening in California right now with all of the solar panels being scrapped there.... Nightmare....

That’s where I find myself going. I enjoy wrenching on the fox. While I say I’m done, I have visions of an IRS and t-56 swap. I enjoy the project more than the end result.

But I want a stock driver car that needs nothing and is turn key reliable. Go sign up for a few laps around a track, and then no prob dropping the kids off at school and sitting 2 hours in traffic with.

These numbers are being driven by nostalgia and speculation. The people buying these aren't drag racing or street racing anybody, especially not a Camry driver.
Totally agree! I was sitting at a light this morning, and up pulls some Audi turbo something. Light turns green and he leaves like a bat out of hell. I couldn’t care less. Probably put that guy in my 5 speed manual, and he couldn’t make it move! Lol
I’m well aware that my car is slow, and my wife’s ‘19 Cherokee, and my ‘18 F150 with 2.7 are both faster than my Foxbody. Neither even come close in the fun to drive category!

That's exactly how I ended up with my 2014 GT as my daily... but when the kids got too big that had to stop.

Our foxes dont rule the street like they did years ago, but they sure aren't slow either. On paper, yes heads up were donezo against a lot of wants out there today. But we have to remember our foxes are light and there's two ways to be fast. Add power or lose weight.

I was just talking with my son about this the other night. His friend at school has an 07 GT who thinks he can smoke me. The 07 GT is 300hp 300tq. My 87 is 225hp 300tq. The 07 is 400lbs heavier than my 87 GT convertible, which is significant. It may not matter because my racing days are mostly done, but it's a factor nonetheless.

The other thing is most kids today have no clue how to race period, other than mash the skinny pedal on green.

We have a one two lane road near a hospital that eventually goes to one lane (each way) and idioits always try to go in the left lane, race and cut in front of the folks in the right which Ps me off.

One night i had the stang out and some young punk lined up next to me in the left lane in some turbo SUV. Not sure what it was but he kept inching forward on red so I knew what the deal was and I wasn't going to have any of it.

I watched the traffic light like John Force watching the Christmas tree at Maple grove (lol yes I've raced there). Light goes green and I hit it. Wound out 1st and 2nd hard. Five liters of fury pulled strong and in the upper RPM range made the sweetest music no other engine or radio could ever duplicate. I look back and I've got at least 5 cars easy on that thing no joke. He had nothing for the old fox, he never knew what hit him.

Yes she's no race car, but certainly not slow either. That night, that kid learned what an old 5.0 fox body stang could do (and an old man who knows how to race) I had a smile on my face and felt like I was 23 again and back at the grove.....hahaha.

Good stuff Gents. I sure do love my foxbody. Now just as much as I did in my teens when these cars were new.

Have a great Saturday.

The Tesla plaid is in its own league, but let's talk about the variants we're more likely to run into:

The Model 3 performance and the Model 3 long range are far more common. They're going ~11.7@117mph from what I could find. Their strongest suit is their computer's magical ability to maximize traction on an unprepped surface at all for contact patches.

Black Jack, the car I just bought back for $3,800 has a simple GT40 build and ran a 12.63@108mph. When I did that, it was with some track tricks like icing the intake, removing the fan, and I was running u/d pullies. So, in street trim I don't do any of those things, and Ive backed down the timing to 14* from 18*. I'm guessing it currently sits in the 13.0-13.2@104 range in street trim with the engine warm. Next up: 150 shot of nitrous, which I'llbe researching, today. Rule of thumb, .1s and 1mph per 10hp. On paper, that would get Black Jack down to 11.5-11.7@~119mph on a prepped surface, though it runs out of fear before that. So, a 150 shot should give a driver a chance on a prepped surface or from a 3rd gear (traction non-limited) roll on the streets.

That's the direction I'm headed in with Blackjack now. It's target is a 392 Scat Pack Challenger not a tesla, but I just wanted to see how it might, stack up hypothetically.

I'd say performance is not too bad for a sub-$10k 30+ y/o car. Now, I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope everything stays in one piece.

Performance aside. Take off from a dead stop in a model 3 and accelerate casually (50-60% throttle) up to 90mph.

Now do it in a fox body rowing through 4th gear with a healthy exhaust note

Which one is more fun to do it in?

Observation at a car show a while back:
Someone brought a Tesla and parked it with the other newer vettes, camaros and mustangs and literally nobody even looked at it!
Pedestrian vehicle, no interest, just like the latest frige.

Yeah there's no doubt there are a lot of quick stuff out these days, in stock form we're majority out gunned in many cases, but again the driver can make the difference and a lot of these millennials and Gen Z kids, who most of the time would rather sit in front of the TV or play video games as opposed to spinning some wrenches, are automotively clueless.

It's sad really, with my stang and garage I am blessed to have, you'd think my boys would be asking to go out and work on stuff with Dad. Nope, despite many vast efforts, if I don't ask them to come out, they don't.

I warn them that if they don't come out with me and learn how to fix stuff, they will be just like their mom's dad and have to pay people to do everything for them. Even that's not worked. They may have to learn the hard way sadly. :notnice:. You can lead a horse to water....
