The O2 harness connects to the ECU harness just below the MAF. Make sure that connection is solid. My car did this once and it took a couple days to track that down.

Actually driving it right now, has not died and has been at operating temp for about 20 mins now, great news as far as TFI Replacement!

Also are the O2 sensors the two white plugs that run up just below the MAF like you stated?

I did push both connections together a little harder just to be sure they were connected - was the only thing i could think of that involved touched or moved just a little too much during my MAF clean and TFI replacement.

So far no CEL and the exhaust still smells a little like fuel but not nearly as bad as last night.

Will run the codes again as mentioned once home just to see if they’ve cleared.

Thank you! Update to follow shortly

Got home and ran the codes again after about an hour ish of driving in total, just your standard codes 11c and 10.

Sounds like whatever I did fixed it.

Hopefully over the next few days there’s no issues with the car for the time being as far as dying mid drive.

I seriously appreciate all the help yall provided with diagnosing this and pointing me the right direction.

Just for curiosity when the TFI Ignition Tester arrives off ebay, I’m gonna test the old Motorcraft TFI to confirm it was bad just as an extra measure.

I’m gonna say the two white connectors you messed with are the air bag sensor connectors so don’t mess with those again please. Would look like this:

This is what the end of the O2 harness looks like and it has 8 wires.

And just for grins, you might see that the ground wire for the O2 sensors is still good and solid.

Well good thing i didn’t mess with those more lol, good to note because i’ve never known what those were - never had to suspect anything there.

Will check ground wire for O2 sensors as well once i’m under the hood today

If only Motorcraft kept producing these - I've always had good luck with their parts and get their brand whenever I can.

Seems so..? It’s got the listing on it as Motorcraft.. i heard some rumors about it just being a cheap (insert specific foreign country here) manufactured piece of plastic that goes out within the year.. but considering rock auto is pretty standard on providing decent parts it could be true.

Supposedly Motorcraft themselves stopped physical production on these prior to 2014 from what i could read, not sure where they could be getting these unless they had a decade worth of backstock after halting production.

Regardless if this unbranded one i just threw in fails, might give the Rock Auto TFI a shot and see what happens

Update:

Haven’t driven the car much because the holidays however it’s been on about 10 trips now with no issues, hesitations, or power cutouts.

Seems the TFI was the issue. Did receive the TFI tester finally from ebay seller, gonna definitely keep it for next time!

Thanks all for the help on this.

Have a great new year
