Go ahead, call me cheaky
Let the threads begin, I dont learn very quickly now do I boys I bought yet another "old" ride. But at least this time its in reasonable shape to begin with and has a certian coolness factor.

Its a 77 F250 4X4 camper special. 351m 4 spd

It has the open knuckle high pinion dana 44 front end along with the married trannie and t-case making it a later 77 or commonly known as a 77.5 (this is the year they changed)

It has the camper special package, this gave it sway bars, dual batteries, dual tanks, camper wiring, steering stabilizer, overload springs, large swing out mirrors and maybe a few other things.

It has a aftermarket fabricated stepside box on it, I got the original box with a fiberglass canopy aswell.

Its in pretty good shape from what i can see, Its had a paint job in 97 but no serious metal work was done, One cab corner and one front fender are bubbling so the rust is coming from the inside out, they will need to be replaced in time. The doors are in good shape other than rust holes where the larger mirrors attach to the bottom of the doors. thats in a flat spot so easy patch job ill do right away. The original box had a bondo job done on the rear fender wells i think so either whole new box sides or a patch panel, but that box isnt on it right now.

I checked all the ujoints, steering linkage, splines and all seems good exept for the upper ball joints (king pins) are wore. Ill replace them all.

The motor was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago, i did a compression check and that turned out well, no blue smoke, no blowby and it runs strong. The carb has some issues, its a holley 600 cfm 4bbl (edelbrock performer i think manifold was added) it leaks out the fuel rails and the electric choke works sometimes. Instead of messing with this 20 year old carb I think ill just bite the bullet and buy a new holley (maybe a truck avenger)

it has 410 gears (sorry it has no limited slip :( ) the interior is really really good other then a few sunlight cracks in the dash pad. recent new brakes, calipers etc. blah blah tires are brand new not even driven on.

Its got a 10,000 pound PTO winch on it aswell .

heres some pics:

Love the winch mount. Who's going to argue with that!!

LOL i know, i have plans for that, its hard to mount a pto winch the same as a electric winch, thats why it sticks out like it does but i think if i angle the corners back to the front end it would look less homemade.

aint no showqueen but I think the trucks relatively solid.

Ugly color... but the truck looks good.

PTO winches are a mixed bag. Generally the have lots of power and can pull all day long without overheating like an electric. But on the downside, the engine must be running in order to work, and instead of stalling out when the load get's to be too much, PTO winches have a sheer pin. Which kinda sucks when your stuck in 3' of mud and need to get under it to replace the pin.

I don't know why, but I don't like the box. Put the factory box back on!

I was hoping youde come around, I was wondering how the winch dealt with overloading it as theres no way in hell it would stall with a 200+ horse power motor geared down to nothing powering it, I didnt think they would let it tear itself to pieces so I thought they'd use a shear pin, do you know where the shear pin normally is??? Id like to get a spare to carry with me. As far as the engine being running for the winch to work your correct but my thinking is even with an electric your not getting much winching done without your vehicle running before the battery dies and then you still need some juice to start it.

Ya orange wouldnt be my top choice but hey buying a 27 year old truck isnt like ordering directly from ford especially when your looking for a specific year, model, engine etc.

I dont like the stepside box much either i think i will wait untill i can do a proper job on the stock box before i put it back on.

Do you want to sell me your dual fuel setup yet???

Lol.. nope, the dual fuel system isn't for sale ;)

Sorry I don't know where exactly the shear pin is.. I think it changes from manufacturer to manufacturer. I think your best bet would be to figure out exactly what make and model your winch is, then do some research.

As for PTO to electric comparison. Your right.. your not going to get far with an electric winch and an engine that isn't running. But usually you can do a couple of full pulls. For example.. you should be able to pull yourself out of a mud pit so that you can work on getting the vehicle started on dry ground. You also have the option of using dual batteries (like your truck already has), or if you have a friend with you, you can swap batteries with him.

On the flip side.. PTO winches don't overheat and since they don't have a motor, they tend to be very simple and reliable. But an electric winch you can usually control from outside of the vehicle using the remote.. not so with a PTO. I think I would prefer an electric.. but I don't think I would bother to swap in an electric if my truck already came with a PTO.

ya sounds bout right nitrous.

May i direct your attention to my carb thread http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=546106&goto=newpost

also do you know the name and number of that dealer in vancouver? he had good prices, i forget his name but we talked about it some time ago.

-gbm-

I'll take a look at the carb thread... but I'm not much of a carb expert.

As for the dealer in vancouver... sorry I can't remember who we were talking about. If it was about 4x4 parts, then I was probably talking about North Shore Off Road. http://www.nsor.com/
