Glue to attach something to the hood of a car?

Is there an adhesive made to attach something to the hood of a car? I am going to Jimmy Buffett this weekend and want to attach a little surfer dude to my hood of my winter beater (89 Probe GT). What can I use to do this. Don't really want to ruin the paint with glue but don't know how else to attach it. I would like it to stay up there on the highway and everything.

Any ideas???

Oh almost forgot, the surfer guy is plastic with a little wooden surfboard that he stands on.. he is about 12-14 inches high and about 6-8 inches wide on his gnarly surfboard!

Check the local bone yard for a spare hood and screw the sucker on there

You could try double-stick foam tape. You just gotta make sure both surfaces are clean and dry.

Think the double sided tape will hold him at highway speeds? How hard is it to get that stuff off of the car when I am done with it?



Black_Cobra, thanks man I will have fun, this concert is always one of the best parties of the year. And Alpine Valley is nuts! I was thinking of just screwing the little guy on there, but I think I would rather spend the $100 or so it would cost me for a new hood on booze! hehehe

We are also working on getting a 3' shark fin for the top of the car! Anything to look like an idiot! Even though my car won't even come close to topping the cake! There are some crazy Parrot Heads out there!!!

I also purchased a six foot inflatable monkey, now if I could only get that thing to stand on the top of my car....hmmmmmm....hehehe

That might just work! I will have to try it out and if it doesn't work I will probably resort to the double sided tape.

This thread reminds me of a 99+ V6 I just drove by with a massive hood ornament on the hood. I couldn't tell you what it was, but it looked absolutely horrid.

The magnet will probably fall off at highway speed, now radio antenna magnets won't but those are much larger. The 3M double sided foam tape should work fine, I used it to reattach the louvers on my '91 firebird and they stuck even up to 115. I think 70-80mph should be fine.

That's actually not a bad idea. Was gonna say, "that's not gonna work," til I realized he wants to do it to his probe, not his Mustang.

He'll have to put the magnet on the hood first, though, then glue the kewpie doll on the magnet, to ensure that the glued up bottom of the doll follows the contours of the hood.

If you wanna put a styrofoam shark fin or something on your roof, you can just use some bungie cords or elastic through the windows, can't you?

The elastic/bungie might work for the hood, too, if you do it front-back.

Yeah I was thinking about the bungies for the shark fin. Trying to think how I would get them to work for the little surfer.. It is going to be an interesting night trying to figure this out.. hehe I bet I will figure it out easily after a few Coronas! hehehe, have to get in that Jimmy Buffet frame of mind, you know!

And no don't worry fellas, there is no glue or double sided tape coming CLOSE to my Stang hood!!

I stuck a fin on the top of my truck for a JB concert. I used large plastic suction cups used for hanging stuff on windows. Got them at a local crafts store. They worked great. The fin broke and it was flapping all around at hwy. speeds. The cups never let loose.

I have pics, but they are on a regular disposable camera. Maybe I can scan them in if I can figure out my scanner, never used it before. Have to get the film developed yet too.

I ended up epoxying the surfer to a magnet and then sticking him on the hood. We didn't put him up there on the interstate since I didn't think his balsa wood surfboard would hold up. But we did have him up there for the last couple of miles into the amphitheater. People were pointing and laughing the whole way!
