good budget build for a 5.0 longblock???

I bought a 93 longblock, took it apart bymyself, the cylinder wear is is very small, i dont think it needs bored over.

My plans are to do something mild to this motor, drop it into my gt now and i'll have another long block sitting there, then tear it down and go all out on it.


How big can i go with a cam without screwing up the computer?
I want to be able to hear it. A lopey healthy cam.
We probably will go with a piston change also. The 93 has hypereutectic pistons. what are the compression ratio on these pistons?
We'll probably go with a higher compression.

Unsure about heads or intake, that would be expensive.

Can someone list some really cheap intakes and head for a budget build like mine. I'm not going for 350+ HP here, just something more powerful than stock that sounds nice and lopey.

Or post your build if they are like what i'm trying to acomplish....

What kind of budget are you talking about, becasue you can quite a bit on not much money.

Your factory compressionratio is 8.8:1 if memory serves.

Don't make a mistake of going with too large of a cam over stock. A step or two up is a fine and the computer will easily handle it. The importent thing on a somethign liek you're talkign about, IMO, is to build for reliability and fun. And that means torque. Especially if the car is an automatic as it appears from your signiture.
 
as it stands right now i will put about 1000$ in this build, my first build and all so i cant go too radical with it.
What can i do about heads, for some reason i dont feel like putting stock heads back on, or are they ok for my build?


And on cams, i was thinking something like the specs of a ford F cam, will the computer handle this ok?
 
With $1000 bucks you'll be a little bit limited.

I have roller rockers, 24 lb injectors, 73mm C&L MAF, stock intake and heads B303 Cam, underdrive pulleys and a full MAC 2.5" exhaust w/ 1 5/8" equal length shorties. It unquestionably makes more power than totally stock that I started with. But that adds up to well beyond a grand and I bought many of my parts used.

Any FRPP cam the stock computer can handle. Some peopel think the B303 is outdated, but IMO it's fine. I have one and my next engine will have one. Ar their better cams that will work with the stock computer? Yes. I've not heard an F303 cam, but I have heard that it is a pretty decent camshaft.

With only $1000, I wouldn't worry about more compression just yet. I'd hone the cylinders, put new bearings and rings in it and spend the rest of the money on improving the heads and adding the cam. For example, Thumper Performance sells a complete kit that gives you ported heads and the B303 cam with a timing chain for like $900. Add Crane bolt-down roller rockers and you are at about $1200, but it'll be a lot better than more compression on the stock heads. It'll give you a real boost in power and that idle lope you said you wanted. You can add bigger injectors, MAF and stuff as you go along.

BTW, hypereutectic pistons are fine even with a mild shot of nitrous or a little bit of boost (6-7 psi is ok).
