Just got back from the track for the first time in my 96 GT. The car has very little mods (3.73 gears, bbk intake, ford racing shortys) and is running on 4 Nitto NT555s. Was wondering if this was a good ET for this car. I am somewhat disappointed by not being sub-15s but its a point to work on I guess. Also what cheap bolt-ons would be recommended next to help drop it a little further?

What were the conditions of the run? Elevation? Temperature? Location? Automatic transmission? If you were making a pass in Denver, yeah it might be a good time.

The 60' isn't too bad, but you seem to be missing a bit of power. In bone stock trim, to the paper filter and everything, my 97 ran 14.6@94 mph with a similar 60' time. I think you need to do a full tune up. Replace the plugs, air filter and the fuel filter, clean the MAF, check your tires and brakes and give her an oil change. In my opinion, maintanence and keeping the car in top running condition is a large part of running a quick time.

With some practice and an off road H pipe, I ran the times in my signature. Again, I don't claim anything special, but I take care of the car. I've always run synthetic, keep the tires up to pressure, and regularly change the filters and plugs.

with mine bone stock npi engine but with bolt-ons i ran 9.12@76.8mph and that was with 4.10s also tho, idont run 1/4 times as my car isnt set up for it. but still not bad tho, just takes practice. i ran the new pi engine moderatly not really hard and got done to 8.91@77.3mph. the shifts were at 5600rpms cause the car isnt tuned for the pi engine.

I was about to say the same things, I ran a 15.3@90 in my 98 vert stock, installed just an o/r h-pipe and a tune up, ran a 14.3@95mph.

LOL, exactly. The H pipe gave you about .2 seconds and 1.5mph, and the tune up gave you the rest!

Well the conditions for the run weren't ideal. It was about low 80s and humid. The car is a 5-speed with about 170k miles on it. I had just changed the oil that day, but I definitely agree that its time for a spark plug change. I picked the car up about 27,000 miles ago and I haven't changed them. I pulled them out to check and see what they were and were Bosch Platinum 2's. The air filter definitely needed to be cleaned. Hopefully these things will help the car out a bit.

I went 8.82 with weight reduction, pulleys, kn, h pipe. Stock 2.73 gears. I was 1.9 60ft's. Car was 150k+. 60ft is king.

What was the DA number? makes a big difference stock 96-98 cars can go high 14's in good air at sea level but i am going to assume this time of year in your area the air is lousy

This time of year in my area its an average of about 70-90% humidity and it was low 80s that night. So yes the air sucks here.

Track your DA, 60ft times, trap speeds, and when you shift the car. Seat time will help you out. Play with the PSI and how you launch the car.

Went to the track again after doing a full tune up. Oil change, spark plugs, air filter cleaning, fuel filter replacement. Didn't get much better. But at least I broke the 15s mark. Do you guys think that the fact that the car has 175k miles on it, that the rings are worn and are holding enough compression?

Your DA during this run was around 900ft, which is not bad at all. Your car shold be trapping 75mph in the 1/8. 89mph is way slow with for your car in the 1/4. 3.73 gears are not a good gear for 1/4 racing at your hp level(200rwhpish). You are shifting in to 4th and out of your power band before the traps. Eitherway, with your mods and that DA, you should be seeing 14.2-14.4's. Your 60ft needs to get down to the 1.9-2.0 are on steet tires. Good luck

By far getting the 60ft time down to a 1.9 will be the biggest thing to help your time on street tires. The typical saying is .2 in the 1/4 for every .1 in the 60ft. That should put you at around a 14.5
