Just got back from Cedar Falls Raceway. First time running at a 1/4 mile track ever, so it was a little to get used to. The BFG's would not hook very well at all. I was talking to a guy that used to run them and he said they don't hook worth a crap until they're worn down a ways. It was pretty funny cuz just as were leaving the track he takes a look at the tires and says,"Yep, a few more passes and these things will just be gettin ready to hook." I was just like..."great.. " Oh well, they'll hook that much better next time.

Well anyways I ran a ton of 12.9's and 12.8's. But my best was a 12.742@110mph. There was a 99 WS6 running 12.9's with an LS6 intake, LS6 cam, exhaust and bolt-ons. So yea, the mph is there. I just need to learn how to hook up better with the tires. I'm pretty happy with the times, but mostly the mph because that lets me know there's a lot more in it. I still need to learn where to shift, I'm thinking about getting a shift light and hiding it in the heater vent. Oh, the car weighed 3325 with me in it. I weigh 160, so I should be able to get it down closer 3000 (w/o me) with some drag wheels and more weight reduction. My buddy said he dropped 60lbs with just the Welds. Well, here's the slip...

Those times are great for sure. Finally, you're no longer a virgin! I can only dream of 60' times like those. Were you pretty nervous your first run? All that work/money and hoping and praying it meets your expectations.

Sweet times! In the 12's first time out is excellent!

The BFG's do hook more consistently and a little better when they are worn out a bit more but I would not expect the world from them. The right suspension is the key to making those tires really work more than wearing them out is. I would consider some suspension mods if your really looking to make the car work better.

Freakin' Sweet for your first time out.

well Paul (killercanary) ripped a 1.6x 60' on Nittos with subframes and control arms(i thinki lowers) so its doable in near stock form...

Thanks guys!

Actually I'm hoping for a lot better sixties than that in the future. A buddy of mine with the same combo cut high 1.5's at the track we raced at. He ran an 11.77@116mph with a lighter fox.

Anthony- I think I kinda found a sweet spot. Hard to tell with the factory tach and it winds up so fast in first and second, but... 6k for 1-2, 5800 for 2-3 and 5500 for 3-4.

I think alot of people just expect to run great times right away, but it doesn't work that way. I told myself before I'd be happy with a very high 12 because I knew I had zero practice at a 1/4 mile track and zero with this new combo. I mean, look at Paul, he ran like mid or low 13's the first time he went out and no he's snapin of low 12's like it's easy. I really need to get some seat time like him and perfect everything. I think I should be able to get it quite a bit lower in the next few years.

Nice times Jake....you ran just about what I was expecting you to run. The mph is there, just gotta get more seat time.

I'm kindof in the same boat you are...going to be interesting to see how we both can learn our new combo's and progress. Our 1/8th mph is the same as I was in the 86mph range my last time out...looks like you're pulling a little harder on the big end though.

And yes...there is a learning curve to DR's. I would consider a 1.89 60' pretty good for your 1st time out.

Yea, I think I was thinking what most people think, oh this will be easy. Drop the clutch at 4k and take off...lol...not exactly.

There was a very fine line between lighting them up and bogging the car. Never really got a perfect grab and go.

yeah, remember paul doesnt dump either...he slips the clutch on his launches....

AWESOME JAKE! I worked all weekend, and when I'd call home, I'd have my wife check the boards to see if you posted. I'm so happy for you, that is an awesome time for your first trip out. Like you said, I ran a 13.6 at 103 my first time out with my current combo. I'm glad you realized right away that launching on DR's takes a finese of sorts. Many people don't ever realize that... and they are the poeple that say DR's suck. Like Anthony said, I slip my clutch pretty good on the launch, and it took me at least 5-8 times at the track to master this. I cut a best of 1.70 60' on my 245-50-16 nitto DR's and a 1.66 on my 315-35-17 nitto DR's. My suspension is all stock except for LCA's and subframe connectors. I think your very close on your shift points. I looked at your dynograph and your midrange is increadible, so you don't want to over rev it. In a year or so from now after you've mastered this combo, I'd check with ED and think about retarding that cam 2* You'd lose a little down low, but the gain up top in a car weighing what yours does might make for even better times. I's stick with what you have now for a while, but its something to think about. When are you heading back?

Thanks Paul! I'll think about retarding the cam, but like you said, I'll see what I can get out of this.

Don't know when I'll be heading back, but maybe sometime early August, we'll see. I kinda just want to drive my car now rather than wrenching on it all the time.
