Got my transmission apart....more questions...**PICS**

First of all, the only numbers I could find were on the case. here it is:

Theres an R4 above where it says BorgWarner Automotive and under that is the number 13-52-066-935. Dunno if that will help with identifying it or not.

Got it apart and it needs a rebuild kit, 2nd gear and countershaft cluster. So if anyone has any of this laying around thats in good shape, lemme know, ha. I'll post pics in a little bit.

That number is just the part number for the casing.

Count the teeth on 3rd gear. If there are 27 teeth it's a 85.5-89 275 ft-lbs gearset.

If it has 26 teeth, it's a 1990+ 300 ft-lbs gearset.

The number on the countergear will be a dead giveaway

048 = 4=banger
052 = 84-89 V8 275ft-lbs gearset
062/068 = '90+ 300 ftlb gearset
070 = Z-spec gearset

Hmmm, I dunno....This is the first time I've ver looked inside of one....May have to buy 3rd gear too....damn this is making me mad....I can use the Ford Racing World Class rebuild kit right? The tranny is supposed to be a World Class, thats what I paid for 3 years ago.

Yeah that's a world class style trans.
You don't necessarily need the rebuild. The blocker rings i can see still look good. Unless you had grinding and such before you blew second, the blockers shouldn't be too worn. You may just for the sake of it replace the 2nd gear blocker ring.

It's VITAL that you rinse the trans with ATF and get every bit of metal shavings out. You'll need to disassemble the mainshaft anyway so make sure you wipe everything down nicely with an ATF soaked rag. Flush the hell out of everything else.

You might be fine with 3rd gear. Just check it over real well.

At that point you might want to consider another transmission instead of rebuilding it. Figure 80 bucks a gear... the cluster is $? and whatever the rebuild kit is. Let us know what year tranny it is... we might be able to come up with some parts.

I'm not sure what year the tranny is....I bought it from a shop in town about 3 years ago when the original one locked up at 85 mph on the interstate (that was fun, ha). I didn't see any kind of tag on it. Is there anyway to know what year it is? Also, I found some parts on ebay....Its a kit with the cluster gear, 2nd and 3rd for $265.....and I found a master rebuild kit for a world class for $125

i would NOT use ebay rebuild kits. i used one, drove my car through the summer, and it started grinding second again after only about 10k. Bought the ford racing kit from summit, drove it for another year no grinding, then it blew third. I have a second gear in good shape laying around if you want it, Email me. [email protected]

BTW? what';s that dent down the center of the teeth on 3rd gear? That's not supposed to be there. Is there a matching drnt on the countergear's teeth?

FWIW I just put together a t5 using 2 blown ones. Both of them had that indent on the 3rd gearset :shrug:
One was out of an 86 the other was from an 87.

Look on the passenger side of the case. Look for a small circle with a number inside. That's the year the casing was cast in and will help with narrowing down what's inside.

The only real way to tell what gearset you have without the tranny tag is to pull the mainshaft out and find the 3-digit number on the countergear.

Untill you know what they number is, you can't really order any parts because parts from the two major gearsets used will not interchange with each other.
