Gutting the first set of "cats" on the H-pipe?

I was thinking to help free up some flow on my cousin's 95, we could gut the first set of "cats" and leave the other two alone. I wonder if this would help out a little?

Should help a little keep in mind you might get a tinny sound due to the empty cat housing.

This has been argued before here. I gutted the front two and replaced the rear two with pipe. The stock crossover pipe is still there. No tinny sound. Sounds just like before, but a bit louder.
