Guys over 6 ft tall. Headliner and seat options?

Hey everyone. First post and I'm looking for some help. This is teh 3rd classic i've owned. My first two, i never got around to restoring (or installing a factory headliner). Basically just raced the heck out of em! That is probably why i never noticed this issue that i have now in the 64 i just purchased. My head is in the headliner with factory seats installed. Could i lower the seat somehow? I would actually prefer to sit a little lower. I was also thinking of pulling out the headliner for one that is tighter to the roof (think newer cars). What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Doing anything to the headliner IMO wouldn't help as much as just modifying under the seats. There is a good 3-4" rise you could shorten right there. Friend of mine took his entirely out since he is 6-4 or so.

I put my headliner bows in the top hole when i put in my new headliner...i plan on doing the seat track mod that slides the seat back 2-3"....the slope of that seat pan it ought to lower the seat slightly as well....maybe. But chopping the seat riser is the best route, but it takes some work.

6'2" here with a 65 Stang. I cut my seat pans by 1/2 and also added 2" to the seat tracks. I have a couple of inches between my stock location helmet and helmet which is important with all the movement I have racing my stick car. I have used both the 65' seats and the 71' Mach high backs with no issues.

The upper headliner holes give only 1/4" or so and are much more work if you don't otherwise need to replace your headliner.

Mustangs To Fear is coming out with a one piece headliner for the 65-66 cars. They claim it will give you an extra 2 inches of headroom. But I agree with blown65, the seat platform mod is the way to go. I'm 6'4" and lowered the platform, along with changing from a tinted windshield with the blue band, to a clear windshield. I also added an Ididit tilt wheel.

Which fixes will work or how many together are needed really depends on your upper body ht., are you 6'1", 6'4", etc. will you be wearing a helmet in the car?

At 6'1" I needed just a little more space so I extended the seat tracks ~2" when I installed foxbody seats that are the same ht. as my stock ones. The extra extension lowered me some and being able to recline the seat helped a lot. I didn't know about the bow options but there's another 1/4" I have to look forward to when I redo my headliner.

I'm 6' 3" and never really had an issue before. I had ran both the stock seats as well as the Mach 1 high backs like someone else mentioned. I will probably look into the Fox body seats with recline plus removing the headliner entirely. I will definitely look into the one piece units or have a local shop do something custom (think pick-up truck cab). It just feels a little clostrophobic (sp) to me with the headliner being right up against the top of my head. Besides, i really screws up my hair Thanks for all the replies guys. Anyone know of any other seats that will work in a stang and give u the recline option with the least amount of work?

I consider myself a pretty good "googler" and I looked and looked for a product like this 6 months ago when I replaced my own headliner....I wish I had known about their one piece...its a good looking product, as much pain that went into putting my headliner in, i might have to tear that sucker out anyway!

Fiero seats, I'm 6'1" and have plenty of head room in my 66.

Sit several inches lower than stock, recline, were designed by Recaro, and are very light weight.

They fit onto the stock mustang sliders with a minimal amount of work.

Google Mr Mike, he can color and style match any fabric you want....mine look stock.

Not to hijack, but I'm only 5' 10" and am cramped in my fastback. I remember well the first time I drove it, I reached to to pull the seat adjuster and move the seat back a bit, only to find it was already all the way back!

I do wish the seat would go back one more click, but its not that bad since I'm 6ft. I have noticed that the leg room in some newer cars isn't even as good as it is in my 65.

The fox body Mustangs was alright, but for some reason our 97 Cobra really seems to have less leg room.

I don't see head room being that bad. My brother is 6'3" and he has some head room. My friend is rather large and is the same height and he has head room, although could use a tad more.

What I do in mine is recline the seats a little that works well and is more comfortable anyway.
