H/C/I + blower combo Q's

A buddy of mine wants to sell me his procharger p600b kit for a good price. The problem is, there is no one that can tune my car within 300mi or so. He said if I go with the FMU in the kit, I'll be fine with no tune. I'm currently running 24lb'ers and a c&l maf with my TF based h/c/i (not tuned). Will my car run decently without a tune and using the fmu? I will have the money/time by next winter (possibly sooner) to buy 42s and trailer the car to have it tuned, I just don't want to buy the kit now and not be able to install it until then.

Also, his blower was on a fox, but he has the correct brackets for an sn95 that he's including. Do we use a different crank pulley? I was thinkin I read that we use a different pulley, in which case I would have to figure that into the cost. Is there anything else sn95 specific that I don't know about? Any info is appreciated :snsign:

You would have to get a disk for the fmu to work with your 24's unless he also had 24's.

Peeps have run with fmu's for years.

One thing about fmu's to remember is .............
If something like the v hose to it pops off or any thing else that might render it inoperative .......

its instant lean city and a blown hg may occur before you even have time to know there has been some kind of problem.

best bet in my opinion would be to buy the blower then wait on the install. Sure fmu's work ok.....but they are are like a band aid for the fuel system....and like grady said, have no room for error

wait til you get the funds for the injectors and maf, then go get a tune (or do it yourself).

you can drive it to the dyno. Just dont get into boost and drive like a granny. Look on the classifieds on here and the corral.net. you can get a maf ( i think procharger uses blow thru) and injectors for like $350, sometimes cheaper. just make sure its for a 5.0 and the maf is calibrated for the 42's.

Thanks for the replys, I may just buy a tweecer and try tuning myself. I've always wanted to, it's just that self tuning a combo like this for a first-timer is a little intimidating.

IMHO, you are wise to be thinking along these lines.

I feel I have a basic understanding of how things work when talking about tuning and my combo has turned out better than I had hoped for.
however
That only is true when talking about NA.

When I go with my KB, I know I'll have to learn a few new tricks simply cause, being forced adds complexity to the tune somewhat.

btw, gaining that knowledge is not really all that hard as it is already plainly out there just waiting for you to use it. What you would do is this ...........

find several peeps who are already forced, like Dennis from our forum, and focus on his old posts.

Why not start learning now how to self tune ..........
while the combo is more self tuner user friendly?

Then when you bolt on the blower, you will have a better feel for your self tuning abilites.
