paul what track was that at? sounds like my car with its old setup, and i think i remember you living in jersey.. if that car was at atco that might have been me

anyway.. i'd say definatly look into thumpers heads.. back when i was trying to decide on a set of heads i did alot of research on thumpers heads, and i heard nothing but great feedback.. everyone that had them loved them because of their great performance on the street.. the tourque numbers that people were seeing from them were increbable, considering they are stock ported heads, and tourque is what is going to make a daily driver car alot of fun

I dont know man, it wasn't a red car, it was a grey or white GT w/ pony wheels, yea it was at ATCO and I live in philly... drove all the way there just go check out mods of ppls cars, actually, i tend to like Cecil county dragway 2 to 1 over atco, just because of the set up and the openness, and I raced on atco track, and i didn't like the feel of it, very bumpy in the right lane by the christmas tree, i'll let you know what track i think is better when i race on cecil (won't say its better cuz haven't ran it yet) but it looks way cleaner and nicer... as a matter of fact, i'm gonna eat at the TGIFridays in deleware, and than i'll hop on south again go to cecil (w/ my girl lol) i drag her along w/ me -

I like the color of your car buddy, its awesome... heres mine, and good luck, i'm telling you, go w/ either the thumper combo, or the eddy heads, cuz they such a good deal, and alot of ppl overlook them rightn ow cuz of the twisted wedge and afr "rage, phase" - you have a notch, i'm sure your car w/ a thumper combo or eddy would almost definately be in the 12's depending on your driving skills, good luck pal!!

I say save your cash and buy a set of TW's, they're only a little more $$$ than the Performers (at least at Summit) and they run super hard. I put mine in last week and holy crap the power comes on hard over 4000 rpms! I also still have the stock cam and 1.6 RR's, couldnt fit the cam swap in the summer budget...

Before you buy anything, go to AFR's website and read MM&FF's Ultimate Guide to Cylinder Heads parts 1-4 you will be glad you did!

Wow that's awfuly nice of you! :hail2: Im not ready to buy just yet. I was looking at December when I get my tutoring check in. I picked up a side gig at my school where I tutor for the FCAT. So I need to wait for that cash to roll in before I buy. But i've gotta tell you that i've really got my eyes set on that thumper set with the cam and chain.

I've been meaning to ask you what intake you recommend for Head and Cam setup you offer? Are youre budget 12's for cars with CARBS? or EFI cars as well?

Thanks again for the great offer im really looking into it.

heres a set up for the 12's easy .

your going to need to get a decent set of heads ( eldebrocks older casting are cheap and great) with a set of 1.7 rr's

a performer rpm intake or systemax or equavilent .

nice supporting bolt ons and a setr of slicks

car will be way into the 12's with a tire ask me how i know

Morales, have you thought about just buying the heads and keeping the stock cam/intake? A set of aluminum heads with a ported stock intake and your current mods may be enough to get you 12's. This wouldn't maximize the head potential, but it would leave you with room to grow when funds allow.

I know that more than a few people have ran 12's with stock longblocks. Here is a 13.1 example that is with an AOD too.

Do it right the first time and save your cash until you can buy a good set of heads! Don't waste your money on ported stockers, they're fun but when others with better heads keep beating you you'll want more. Weve all been there.

Best thing you can do is keep doing research then put a plan together before buying. Power from the motor comes heads and cam period...do not skimp on either of these skimp on the other stuff. I ran ported stocker then switched to just TWs and let me say the difference was night & day. For the money you're going to spend the stage III kit (or whatever) you can get a better set of heads (60379) that'll probably perform just as well using stock cam.

The thing is guys im not looking for a 10 sec daily. Id be happy with a 12.5 sec daily. I might throw on a low PSI S/C later for more power. This car will probably only see the track a hand full of times as the nearest one is about 2 hours away from me. So basically what this car will be is a daily driver that I can kick ass in on the way to and from from work. That's why im leaning toward the thumpers.

You tell me what you all think?

I think you're wasting your time spending money on ported E7s and should wait until you the cash to buy a good set!

My car was a daily driver and much much more fun to drive with TWs than ported stockers.

Edel 60379 - $1140 from summit
used Cobra intake - $200-$250
Cloyes replacement timing chain (CLO-9-130 ) - $40 summit

$1430 total

Might be a little more than combo #3 you're looking at but used with stock cam and parts you already have, will be much more streetable and out perform it all day.

Are these the heads your talking about?

if so they're half the price you mentioned..

Boy im a hundred times more confused now than i was before! I realize that ported E7's are not so great compared to the other more expensive aftermarket heads. but does anyone doubt Thumpers claim of getting into the 12's with stock ported heads cam and an intake?

It seems to me that it's a budget friendly solution.

If you use your stock cam with a ported stock intake; how much money are you going to save by going with Thumper?

It seems far to easy to me--spend the same amount of money and have room for growth or be stuck with junk heads when you want to go faster.

Im sorry I didn't word that right..

What I meant to say, ported E7's, the B303 CAM and a Cobra upper and lower.

"90notch, you didn't factor in the $200 for stud mount RRs your going to need and new valve covers to clear them. The nice thing about the thumpers is they will bolt on fine without you having to buy anything but gaskets."

He should be buying a set of roller rockers no matter head he gets but these heads will accept stock rockers. Stock valve covers can be easily grinded down to clear them. The exact same things needed to bolt on Tumpers are needed for these heads nothing more!

Yes morales those are the heads, they are far superior to the ported stokers and as I stated will out perform them all day long.

Na i gotcha before. :nice: I just think you could run the same times with something like 90Notch mentioned and stock cam/ported intake. This would save you from buying the cam and intake and almost negate the extra cost of aluminum heads.

I didnt need to grind anything on my stock V/C's to clear my Comp RR's on my TW heads, just unscrewed the baffle part under the fill cap. And yeah, forget the ported stockers/GT40 stuff, get the real deal. Read The Ultimate Guide to Cylinder Heads on AFR's website!!!!!!!!! Seriously dude!!!!!

Man I love the color on that GT! What's it called? I dont remember that being an OEM color. Is it?

Yes, it's oem, i asked for 92, lx, calypso green, and had a gallon mixed. Only used i think 3 coats of paint, and 2 coats of clear, but my clear is as shiny if not shinier than some peoples car that claim to have 10 coats of clear, and this is because I did it myself, and chances are, there really isn't 10 coats of clear, its not how many coats of clear, it's how you work the clear when it's done.... anyway - majorly off topic... but yea it's facotry calypso.. i think the paint code may be PM or something like that, I think it's the same color as your car, w/ diff lighting.. thanks man

Guess im back to square one. One of two things are going to have to happen.

I either

a) have to wait because the money that's coming in and im setting aside is only 1k i.e. can't affod those Edelbrock heads just yet

b) im going to have to buy used or get the heads on special somewhere.. I dont really know what im looking for as far as buying used so im afraid i might miss something and buy a defective head.
