He should be buying a set of roller rockers no matter head he gets but these heads will accept stock rockers. Stock valve covers can be easily grinded down to clear them. The exact same things needed to bolt on Tumpers are needed for these heads nothing more!

Yes morales those are the heads, they are far superior to the ported stokers and as I stated will out perform them all day long.

No RRs are not needed for the thumpers, they do not need the same things, you can use stock rockers and it would be fine, you dont gain much with RRs unless you increase the ratio to 1.7 or more.

With only 1k it would be hard to even get thumpers because an intake, cam, gaskets, TB, MAF, etc. will run you well over 1k.

It seems to me that it's a budget friendly solution.

If all your looking for is mid 12s go with the tumpers the other heads are definatly better but... it would kind of be overkill if you can get what you want with the thumpers. If you want more power in the future though..you could go with an sc trim or something...but after that your gonna need some new heads to see more power. Good luck

I had Thumpers on one of my coupes a couple of years back. I used them with an e cam, cobra intake, c & L, 24lb injectors, 70mm, throttle body, shorties, X pipe.....and a couple of other things and it went 12.80 @108 which, altitude corrected, is 12.41. I also had an e fan and manual steering....but Thumper heads, none the less.

At an absolute minimum you should installing a new timing chain (the one I listed can be used with stock stuff) and roller rockers no matter heads you chose. Stock stamped steel rockers are crap but you could always perform this upgrade later. Edelbrock use pedestal mount rockers so you can still use the stock ones.

My point is for a little more money you can run the 60379s, stock cam and used Cobra (or a ported stock one but I'd run Cobra) and have a combo that you will be much happier with. It should outperform the other combo and will have much better street manners (stock like).

I also forgot to mention you stated you want 280-300rwhp, combo #3 ain't going get you there...more like 250-260 rwhp.

It's your motor & car so it's your decision but I'm trying to offer my point of view as I started with ported stockers but wished I didn't because the better set of heads put a bigger smile on my face every time.

I totally understand and that's why I asked the question in the first place. How much do RR's for heads like that run? Can you point me to a good set on summit.

Also does anyone know if any sponsor or other e-shops carry those head cheaper or run specials from time to time?

I did my H/C/I for about 1500, you just got to be patient i got ported twisted wedge for 1100 with all the hard ware push rods, rockers ect.. got the stage 1 trick flow cam for about 120 and a edlebrok rpm intake manifold for about 150 ( i know thats a sick price) u can save a lot by doing all the labor your self, i did and h/c/i in easy as balls on our cars.

P.s. i know the numbers dont add up but the total included little stuff like gaskets and rtv and what not

Seek out Scorpion brand rockers they are an excellent bang for buck! If you're using stock cam get 1.7 or 1.72 ratio.

I'll just have to wait a bit longer, but in the end i'll have it all except the TB, TB Spacer and supporting mods like Fuel Pump, INjectors Bigger MAF etc.. that i can get later. what do you all think!?

if u want to put in the time to always be scannin classifieds on all forums and ebay u can do it soo much cheaper, i was gonna get that kit but then i did it all including all the install peices and new timing chain and water pump for 1500 ish like i said before, think what else u could buy with that 600 dollllllasssss

I don't think you're nutz, but, speaking of supporting equipment...you could always start acquiring that stuff first, (TB this paycheck, MAF next paycheck-you get the idea...) then go with the HCI a little bit later on-your typical 5.0 will respond very well to just upgrading stuff like what you just mentioned...just getting a new MAF/TB/spacer combo ought to pick it up a noticeable amount...

also might wanna start thinking about beefin up the chassis a little bit...

that sounds like a plan. I've got a set of BBK springs in the garage waiting to get installed, im also going to pick up some Subframes, new shocks/struts, Strut Tower Brace, possible lower control arms and other suspension goodies to help put that power down
