I've read a lot of pro's and con's about both pipes. I have the Bolora cat back that Saleen put on the car (assuming most of you do also). I'm considering going with an off-road (no cats) pipe, but have heard and read nightmare stories about how they "sound like pennies in a coffee can" with chambered mufflers. Not sure if the Bolora's are chambered or not.

Here is the question. What is everyone running? With high flow cats or without? X or H? What do you like/not like about them? Any that you definately wouldn't go with?

I wouldn't worry about it, but I just changed my clutch and noticed that there are 6 friggin' cats on there. That is probably robbing me of 20-30 horses...

H or X?

Look back a few days ago, I have a thread about replacing the Borla cat-backs, check it out. I know you are talking about cats, X or H, but take a look at the thread. Saleen201 offered some good advice about the whole package. He suggested checking into long tube headers rather than replacing the Borlas. My local speed shop suggested the BBK short catted X. Soooo, I ordered BBK ceramic long tubes with a BBK short catted X pipe. I believe the BBK short X has two cats as opposed to the California 6 cats. The two should get me by the NC emissions test and add a nice boost to the HP. If I end up back in FL I will switch to off-road X. My Mach 1 has Borla stingers with a stock h pipe and I do not like the uneven flow of the stock H. Just my opinion. Maybe the off-road H is better, but I am not familiar with it. The stock H does have a good low rumble with great idle and head turning sound while accelerating, but the flow when downshifting or slowing down is very uneven. Maybe others have better experience with off-road H. Check out mustangexhaust.com to see if you can find a clip that you like. They have sound clips of both X and H pipes in a variety of combinations.

I have catted bassani x-pipe attached to my borlas. The power is alright, I am not sure what my dyno indicated, it was like three years ago, but the sound is amazing. There is somewhat of an annoying drone on the highway, but i think my gears may add to that. I have never had any problems even with my constant scraping of the right side clip of my pipe.

I too have a Bassani off-road X & Borlas . I absolutely LOVE how it sounds. As for pennies in a can? I think I hear something like that, but it is not noticeable to me for the most part. The amazing sound of the motor pretty much drowns that out. But the one thing I regret slightly is that I shoulda gone with the long tubes & the short X . Just My 2 cents.

All the articles that I have read say that the x-pipe gives you better top end torque numbers then an h-pipe does. On my S351 speedster, I have the stock Saleen ceremic coated shorty headers, with a bassani catted x-pipe flowing through Borla XR-1 Race mufflers......the car just screams under heavy acceleration and passed clean as a whistle on the recent smog check here in SoCal......On my Saleen Hatchback, I have Bassani ceremic coated shorty headers, with a BBK catted H-pipe and three chamber flowmasters. There is no comaring the two, the borla just sounds so much meanier and has a much deeper roar then the "flows". I use to be a flowmaster guy, lived and died by them, but know the borla's are the way to go. As for the original subject of the thread, the x-pipe is far more superior then that of the h-pipe. Within the next few months, I'm having Eric @ XMP install a set of long tube headers with a custom catted x-pipe on my coupe with the same XR-1's that the speedster has........I'll let you know how different they sound between long tube and shorty headers. My opinion is go with the x-pipe.........

Put the MAC Off-Road H with MIL eliminators on this weekend. MUCH, MUCH louder The cool thing is, if I'm not getting on it, you can't tell. However, my brother swears that when I got on it (over a mile away) going onto the on-ramp he could hear me (don't know that I believe him though). It is really loud when I'm into the throttle. Will have to tone it down around the cops. Fun going in the tunnel and underpasses though...
